So, October was the first month that I subscribed to My Glam. It is also the month that My Glam changed its name to Ipsy, though I’m not really sure why. My Glam is a subscription service that is similar to Birchbox, except that each month’s products come in a different makeup bag instead of a box. The main difference is that My Glam/Ipsy does not have a loyalty program like Birchbox does where you earn points to buy stuff in the shop. My Glam/Ipsy doesn’t have a shop. Instead, they link to the product’s company website so you can buy through the company directly. Also, My Glam/Ipsy is mostly concentrated on cosmetics. Though there will be some skincare and haircare samples, the majority of the bag will contain cosmetic samples. My Glam/Ipsy does not send an informational card like Birchbox does, so my breakdowns will be a little different (all quotes come from Ipsy). This month’s theme was “Hello Bombshell”, and here is what I got in my first bag.
Mirenesse Lip Bomb Glossy Lacquer Stain: “Introducing a revolutionary lip color that combines gloss, stain and lacquer all in one! Mirenesse Lip Bomb is power packed with non-smearing pigment that lasts and lasts. It is designed for professional application with its high pigment, customizable shades, and easy to use Infinity Lip™ Applicator. Infused with Lip Perfecting Spheres, that carry vitamins and a refreshing mint taste, Lip Bomb leaves your lips super-moist and with a velvety finish. Available in 15 shades.” I received a full sized product (3.1 g), worth about $35.10 at mirenesse.com.
Be a Bombshell Eyeliner: “Long-lasting and highly pigmented, Be a Bombshell eye liner can be used to create everything from a sexy cat eye look to a daytime flirty look. The marker-like tip is easy to use and goes on smoothly with no smudges, feathering, or running. The formula is quick-drying and lasts all day until you take it off! Available in 3 shades: onyx, espresso and provocateur.” I’m pretty sure that this is also a full sized product (3 ml), worth $14.00.
theBlam What’s your Type? “the body builder” Mascara: “Pump up your lashes! Build colossal body with the biggest, boldest mascara to come from theBalm Cosmetics – What’s Your Type? in “the body builder”. This long-lasting, clump-free formula boasts a highly pigmented, deep black finish that won’t smudge or smear. Formulated with Vitamin E, Panthenol, and Bamboo, “the body builder” conditions and strengthens lashes to add length, thickness, and definition. Paraben- and sulfate-free.” Normally $19 for 12 ml, sample is 3.5 ml worth $5.54.
Couture Colour Pequi Oil Treatment: “Couture Colour Pequi Oil® Treatment makes hair 6X stronger, 3X shinier and visibly smoother after one application. Use it to nourish, stop frizz, seal split ends and boost colour. Derived from sustainably harvested Amazonian Pequi fruit pulp, this clear, lightly scented oil contains moisture restoring antioxidants, vitamins A and E, proteins and lipids.” Couturecolour.com offers the 15 ml sample size (which is what I received in my bag) for $12.00.
Coastal Scents Eyeshadow: “Coastal Scents creates highly pigmented, stunning eye shadows. These palettes offer four hand-selected shades in different finishes, which can be used alone or together to create a variety of looks. The pressed powder shadows can be applied dry or wet for a more intense, dramatic effect.” There is really no way for me to price this out, so let’s call it an extra. In fact, I got the exact same thing (different shades) as a free sample in my last Coastal Scents order, so I’m not counting this sample in my over all total.
The total worth of my October 2012 My Glam/Ipsy bag is a whopping $66.64, plus the Coastal Scents Eyeshadow and the makeup bag it all came in. (I really like the bag. It’s constructed well and I’d totally use it.) I am very pleased with all of my products, and they are totally worth the $10.00 subscription fee.
I tried out the lip gloss really quick to see what it would look like and was so impressed with it. It is so opaque, feels great on the lips, and has real staying power. I am so doing a red lip for Christmas! I’d never buy it for myself ($35 for lipgloss! what?), but I loved what it looked like. This is one quick coat. Obviously if I was wearing it out, I’d line my lips for a polished look.
I also swatched the Coastal Scents quad so that you could see what they look like. I’m a big fan of Coastal Scents, so I was glad to get the quad. Each palette’s colors are labeled with the corresponding Hot Pot name, making it easy to repurchase shades individually if desired. These are swatched dry, with no primer.
Finally, My Glam/Ipsy has promo codes for discounts off the products with their affiliates. This card shows all the special offers for October’s items. (Click to enlarge to you can read the card.)
I am really glad that I signed up forMy Glam/Ipsy. I don’t know if I’ll keep subscriptions to both My Glam/Ipsy and Birchbox. I’ll probably drop one, but I’ll be comparing them for the next couple of months until I decide. Tune in tomorrow for my Birchbox post to see how they compare.
