Ipsy Bag December 2012

I have my December Ipsy (formerly MyGlam) bag to show today, and I am so excited by what was inside.  I have been really impressed with the subscription so far.  For those who are unfamiliar with Ipsy, click on my “Ipsy” tab in the category section over on the right hand side of the blog, and read my previous posts for more information.  Ipsy’s theme this month was “Haute Holidays”, so let’s dive right in.

NYX Loose Pearl Shadow in 05 Charcoal Pearl:It’s not hard to sparkle with one of NYX’s ultra-shimmering loose shadow powders that can be used on eyes, cheeks, even lips. These finely-milled mineral eye shadows are high-impact, long-lasting and a little addictive! Just the sparkle you need this holiday!”  Sample size: 5 ml (full size), worth $3.00 at nyxcosmetics.com.

Mai Couture Highlighter Papier:  “Add radiance to desired areas of your face and body. The shimmering highlighter paper from Mai Couture will illuminate any dullness for a glowing complexion.  Paraben and talc-free.”  Regular size: 50 sheets, $28 at maicouture.com.  Sample size: 25 sheets, worth $14.00.

Mirabella Prime for Face and Eyes:  “Prime for Face and Eyes weightless, oil-free formula glides onto help promote long-wearing makeup. Vitamin E works as an antioxidant to smooth out lines as it moisturizes and protects skin. Prime provides a silky feel to the skin as it aids in repairing cellular damage.”   Sample size: .45 oz (full size), worth $29.00 at mirabellabeauty.com.

Be a Bombshell Lip Gloss in Hot Mess:  “The perfect holiday “true red” lip gloss that goes on sheer! Layer for a more opaque look. This formula instantly creates the look of fuller more voluptuous lips with luminous shine. This maximum-shine, moisturizing gloss will be perfect for any haute holiday party. The applicator features a soft sponged tip that picks up a generous amount of gloss.”  Sample size: .11 oz (I believe that this is also full size), worth $14.00 at beabombshellcosmetics.com.

Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil in Zero:  “Creamy, forever-lasting, award-winning and waterproof, 24/7 pencils delight you with lush tropical hues, deep metallics, and unusually vibrant neutrals. The best Eye Pencil ever, ever, ever! Never before has a pencil this creamy and brilliant been waterproof, too. Velvety-soft, this never-before-seen formula stays soft and creamy for blending (about 30 seconds), then dries down to a long-lasting finish that WILL NOT budge. Line eyes with a hint of color or go for the full artistic, multi-hued effect with the wide selection of lush tropical hues, deep metallics and unusually vibrant neutrals.”  Regular size: 1.2 g, worth $19 at urbandecay.com.  Sample size: .8 g, worth $12.67*.

The grand total worth of my December Ipsy bag is $72.67.  That is substantially more than my $10 subscription fee.  Plus a sleek little makeup bag, always good for this time of year.  I am really happy with my bag this month.  I’ve been dying to try UD 24/7 liners and do a side by side comparison with NYX slide on liners.  I wish that I had gotten a lighter shade of the NYX pearl shadow, but over all, I’m still very satisfied.  This is my third month with Ipsy, and I am very pleased with my subscription so far.  The only complaint I have (and it’s a small one) is that some people received a “bonus” sample of an Urban Decay primer this month, and I did not.  Possibly, it was a “bonus” because they only had a limited number and long-time subs got first dibs.  I’m not really sure what the issue was, but it would have been nice to receive one.  Oh well.  I am very excited to see what else Ipsy has to offer me as we move into 2013.

*The price I came up with for my UD sample is based on the price of a full size 24/7 liner.  If you take the retail price of a value set of travel sized 24/7 liners, it drops to $6.33.  Since value sets are by nature priced lower than the full sized product, I didn’t think this was fair.  If you use this alternate value for the liner sample, my overall Ipsy bag worth drops to $66.33, still well over my subscription fee.

About beautyinbudgetblog

I am a self proclaimed eyeshadow junkie whose main hobbies include shopping, reading, singing, and mainlining caffeine while hanging out with my friends. I love interesting socks and have amassed quite a collection. The place that I want to visit before I die would be Greece. I like to read all seven Harry Potter books once a year the way some people read the Lord of the Rings Trilogy. (Sorry JRRT, but JKR kicks butt in my book.) I love art, and use my creativity in many different ways through painting, crafts, and makeup. I love to cook and try new things, and I especially love to eat. My favorite "date" is to go wine tasting, and do so with my husband once or twice a year. I love musical theater and think the world would be much better off if we all just watched more musicals. I am 100% a cat person and, although I think dogs can be really cute and sweet, they make me sneeze so cats will always rule. I love faeries and magic, mythology, theology, philosophy, and psychology. I regularly do logic puzzles and sometimes crosswords. I adore Bette Midler, Betty White, and Carol Burnett. I am not ashamed to admit that I watch Glee. I would like to start making some of my own clothes because I can't stop myself from buying fabric. I'm sure that there is much more, but I'm suddenly distracted by something shiny.
