Ipsy Bag January 2013

Ipsy says that “A true star will always shine,” and I was definitely pleased with the “Superstars” that came in the January bag.  For those of you who haven’t been following along, this is my fourth Ipsy bag and I am hooked.  I have been blown away by the value of these $10 a month subscription bags.  I can’t recommend Ipsy enough.  It’s what Birchbox used to be (before they started to suck), but even better.  So, on to January’s bag.

Nailtini Straight Up Color Nail Lacquer in Frappe:  “You can’t go wrong with a classic, all the way to your fingertips. This is one of the all-time best selling Nailtini nail lacquers. With the hint-of-pink of frappe, your tips and toes are classic perfection anytime.  No makeup cabinet is complete without an all-star nail lacquer and Nailtini stocks top-shelf, 3-free nail lacquer in dozens of shades, textures and finishes. Wear them alone or layered to create custom looks and effects, each one a cocktail unto itself. Cheers to beauty, and as always, apply responsibly!”  Full sized sample, worth $13.00 at tinibeauty.com.

Josie Maran 100% Pure Argan Oil:  “This 100% Pure Argan Oil is a legendary oil that’s rich in vitamin E and essential fatty acids, and grown organically in Morocco. With its multitasking benefits, Argan Oil can be used for many areas including hydrating and nourishing skin as a daily moisturizer, skin treatment, treating spilt ends, and softening cuticles. It’s gentle enough to use on all skin types and is known to help with skin conditions including acne, eczema and rosacea. Argan Oil easily absorbs into skin to give you a youthful, dewy glow, and has astonishing healing, conditioning, and antiaging properties to keep your skin and hair nourished and revitalized and to keep you looking beautiful from head to toe.”  Full size 50ml, worth $48 at josiemarancosmetics.com.  Sample size 5ml, worth $4.80.

Pacifica Tuscan Blood Orange Mini Body Butter:  “Tuscan Blood Orange Body Butter is not only a highly effective antioxidant rich moisturizer that nourishes the driest of skin and helps fight off the signs of aging; it nourishes your other senses as well. The infusion of sparkling, juicy blood oranges that are highlighted with notes of red raspberry and spicy sweet Italian Mandarins take you to the beaches of the Mediterranean. Made with nature’s best moisturizers – Shea butter, almond oil and safflower oil – Pacifica’s vegan, paraben and gluten free Body Butter is a skin must have.”  Pacificaperfume.com has this product in two sizes, and the sample size that I received (2.5 fl oz) is listed on the site at $7.

Sexy Hair “Big Sexy Hair Spray & Play Volumizing Hairspray”:  “Your everyday spray for BIG volume! Spray & Play is a humidity resistant, flexible hold hairspray that provides fullness, lift and incredible shine! Perfect for all hair types.”  Ipsy lists Ulta as the retailer in this one, and Ulta.com retails the spray at $17.50 for 10.6 oz.  Sample size 1.5 oz, worth $2.48.

SOHO “Get a Grip” Crease Brush:  “Create the perfect eye with the Get a Grip Crease Brush. SOHO Crease Brush has soft fluffy bristles tapered to a soft point, perfect for applying eyeshadow to the crease of your eye.  It’s also ideal for blending multiple shades of eyeshadow together.  The Natural Hair Bristles blend & contour while the Tri-Grip Handle fits perfectly in the hand.”   Sohobeauty.com lists the price for this brush at $8.99.

The grand total worth of my January Ipsy bag is $36.27. Though that’s not as much as previous bags, it is still well over my $10 subscription fee and I really like what I received.  I was eying that SOHO brush this past weekend at Walgreeens and almost got it, so I love that I received it in my bag.  Also, I’ve been hearing people rave about that Josie Maran Argan Oil, so I’m very excited to try it out.  I’m very happy.

One last thing.  Check out the bag that Ipsy sent for their “superstars” month.  It may not look like much from the outside, but I think the inside lining is absolutely adorable.  I love those stars.  🙂

About beautyinbudgetblog

I am a self proclaimed eyeshadow junkie whose main hobbies include shopping, reading, singing, and mainlining caffeine while hanging out with my friends. I love interesting socks and have amassed quite a collection. The place that I want to visit before I die would be Greece. I like to read all seven Harry Potter books once a year the way some people read the Lord of the Rings Trilogy. (Sorry JRRT, but JKR kicks butt in my book.) I love art, and use my creativity in many different ways through painting, crafts, and makeup. I love to cook and try new things, and I especially love to eat. My favorite "date" is to go wine tasting, and do so with my husband once or twice a year. I love musical theater and think the world would be much better off if we all just watched more musicals. I am 100% a cat person and, although I think dogs can be really cute and sweet, they make me sneeze so cats will always rule. I love faeries and magic, mythology, theology, philosophy, and psychology. I regularly do logic puzzles and sometimes crosswords. I adore Bette Midler, Betty White, and Carol Burnett. I am not ashamed to admit that I watch Glee. I would like to start making some of my own clothes because I can't stop myself from buying fabric. I'm sure that there is much more, but I'm suddenly distracted by something shiny.

  1. I had it when it was myglam and it sucked, but its looking awesome now! I agree birchbox use to be awesome
I canceled mine because of how much they changed….I’m now considering ipsy!

  2. I think I will have to sign up for Ipsy. I too would like a referral link if you have one. For everyone who is thinking of using argan oil for skin, try it! I use Moroccan Oil on my neck and chest at bedtime and my skin is really soft. I have oily skin on my face so I haven’t tried it there but I might just to see what happens. It really is an amazing product.

      • I haven’t tried the Tarte oil. I’ve been using the brand Moroccan Oil. My hairdresser sold me a nourishing treatment to use after I get my hair colored and it makes my hair incredibly soft. I don’t normally use the oil on my hair as it’s already oily enough. But it sure is a nice skin treatment and I can’t imagine how great it is for dry hair.
