Today I have four of the Maybelline Color Show Polka Dots collection nail polishes to show you. They are so cute and fun! I love this line because the base color of all of the polishes is a jelly base so you can achieve the “jelly sandwich” look with just one polish. Check it out. (Remember, you can enlarge all of my photos by clicking on them.)
Like I said, the Maybelline Color Show Polka Dots collection polishes are all a jelly base. They all have the same glitter combo in them, a black and white mix of different sizes and shapes. The look of the polishes in the bottles reminds me of speckled birds eggs. I have four of the five shades to show you today. The one that I am missing (Clearly Spotted) is the same glitter, but in a clear base.
Blue Marks the Spot is a very sheer, milky cornflower blue. It is the most sheer out of all the colors, and even after three coats my nail line was clearly visible.
Pretty in Polka is a bright purple-toned pink. It achieves pretty decent opacity in three coats. I probably could have gotten away with only two, but I wanted to keep all four shades even for the swatches. This shade is jam-packed with glitter.
Drops of Jade is a really beautiful milky, green-toned teal. The polish is still a little sheer after three coats with a hint of the nail line, but more opaque than Blue Marks the Spot. The swatch on my ring finger looks a little sparse with glitter compared to the other shades, but that was a fluke. The ring finger on the other hand and my two thumbs both had plenty of glitter.
I’m not sure what happened with that nail because I did the exact same thing with all four shades. I didn’t try to “place” the glitter on any of them. Who knows.
Dotty is a bright orange. Like Pretty in Polka, it had great opacity with three coats and I could have stopped at two. I love this color and think it will be my go-to Halloween shade.
In general, I really like the Maybelline Color Show Polka Dots polishes. They applied really easily without streaks. I did need to push back some of the large glitter pieces from hanging off the end of my nails, but I didn’t have to “place” the glitter. Except for that wonky green nail, all of the shades have a good amount of glitter that populated evenly across all of my nails. I personally have an issue with Maybelline Color Show polishes chipping on me, and the Polka Dots were more of the same. They started chipping on day 2, but others have had success with them staying good for about 4 days. My body chemistry doesn’t agree with the brand. Even so, I think these polishes are adorable and would recommend them. I believe that these retail for around $3 or so.
