You may remember that I received the Michael Todd True Organics Pumpkin Nutrient-Rich Facial Mask in my August Ipsy bag. I’d been hearing so many good things about this line and wanted to give them a try. Ipsy had a promo code for 30% off any order in August, so I had to make a purchase. With my discount, I opted for the Dry Sensitive Skin Regimen because I wanted a complete routine to really get a feel for the brand. I’m really glad that I did.
About the Company:
Though Michael Todd True Organics is by no means a budget brand, I wanted to review the line here on the blog because many of you have been asking for reviews on organic makeup and skin care. Also, Michael Todd True Organics is 100% made in the USA, which I know interests many of you. According to Lewis Hendler, chairman, the philosophy of Michael Todd True Organics is as simple and organic as the name implies, “You’ll love what’s in it. You’ll love even more what’s not… First, we use as much organics as possible without compromising on performance and without unhealthy parabens, sulfates, mineral oil, artificial dyes or synthetic fragrance. Next, we we use organic aloe vera juice as a base instead of the added water used by many of our competitors. More than a year was spent working with formulators, chemists and certified aromatherapists pulling together science and art to achieve the recipes that would become true organics, effective organically based skin care solutions without the bad stuff. You will recognize the ingredients we use: apricot, avocado, carrot, coconut, cranberry, lemon, orange, pumpkin and tropical fruits to name a few. Mineral and anti-oxidant rich algae and kelp from the sea, green, black and rooibos teas, soothing aloe vera and antioxidant acai berry can also be found in our recipes. Instead of mineral oil, natural and refreshing plant oils made from olive, coconut, jojoba, neem, seabuckthorn seed and tea tree and butters made from cupuacu, shea and mango are used.”
Like I said, I purchased the Dry Sensitive Skin Regimen. The regimen includes six full sized products and is a complete routine from cleansing to moisture, scrub to mask. All of the summaries and product descriptions that follow come from the website. I’ve inserted my impressions. Note that all of these products are at least 70% certified organic, and most of them are Gluten free.
Dry Sensitive Skin Regimen: According to dermatologists, sensitive skin types almost always have one thing in common: inflammation. This causes a host of symptoms ranging from redness, irritation, dryness, itching, rashes, blotchiness and breakouts. Sensitive skin inflammation can be due to heredity, stress, environmental factors (which we can’t do much about) but also irritation from products containing ingredients like soap, alcohol, sulfates and artificial dyes and fragrance. This regimen is especially great for sensitive skin types who are also dry. It will help repair the skins natural barrier with soothing, hydrating products. MICHAEL TODD true organics contains none of these irritating ingredients. The Sensitive Skincare Regimen starts with a base of 100% Certified Organic Aloe Vera Juice. This ancient herbal remedy has been called “nature’s first aid kit” because of its anti-bacterial, antiviral and anti-inflammatory properties. With more than 75 nutrients including 20 minerals, 18 amino acids and 12 vitamins, Aloe Vera hydrates, softens, soothes and nourishes the skin. To this we add thoughtfully selected organic ingredients known for their effective, results oriented skincare properties to clean, soothe and soften your sensitive skin without irritation.
The Sensitive-Dry Skin regimen comprises the following:
HONEY AND OAT gentle deep pore cleanser completely removes dirt, oil, makeup and other impurities without stripping the skin’s natural moisture. Oat Extract deep cleans and Honey adds back moisture. Rinses thoroughly without residue leaving skin feeling clean, soft, smooth and refreshed. 70% certified organic. I love this cleanser. It smells amazing and leaves my skin feeling so clean and fresh, but in no way stripped or dry. This is one of my favorite products in the regimen and I totally think that it is worth the splurge. My skin feels so soft after I use it and OMG the smell is wonderful.
CRANBERRY ANTIOX TONER combination hydrating antioxidant toner, Formulated for dryer and more mature skin types. Cleans and restores the skin’s proper pH without the drying effects of alcohol. Cranberry and Antioxidant Vitamins help fight bacteria and environmental damage. Skin looks fresher and healthier and feels cool and refreshed. Prepares skin for serums and moisturizers. 95% certified organic. Gluten Free. I am not 100% sure that toner is necessary, but if you are going to use a toner, this is a good option. I see some girls on Youtube or in blogs talking up their toners that are basically witchazel, alcohol, and water, and I cringe. Alcohol is terrible for the skin. This toner is really mild and feels good on the skin, but is it worth the splurge? For me, toner is not necessary in my skin care routine. That being said, this is a very good product if you like to use toner.
INTENSIVE Organic Cream Eye Treatment with Haloxyl® and Eyeliss® treats the delicate skin of the under eye areas and eye lids. Whether you are looking to remove fine lines and wrinkles, reduce dark circles, eliminate puffiness or regenerate skin cells to keep yourself looking your best for years to come, INTENSIVE does it all. “Tops my list of best eye cream treatments” according to “The Doctors” Andrew Ordon, M.D., plastic surgeon to the stars. 90% certified organic. Gluten free. This is fantastic eye cream. I usually use Olay Regenerist Eye Lifting serum, which is also very good, but this formula is heavenly. The eye cream is so emollient and silky. I love it at night, though it is a bit much for day time under makeup. I switch back to my Olay for under makeup, but I still really love the Michael Todd eye cream and do think it’s worth the splurge.
HYDRATION BOOST 2-in-1 Wrinkle Reducer Serum+Moisturizer with hyaluronic acid, which helps strengthen skin’s moisture barrier and lock in moisture for healthy, supple skin. 70% certified organic. Gluten free. The Hydration Boost had a learning curve and I wasn’t sure that I liked it at first. Like with all of the other products, the smell is wonderful. I didn’t think that the serum was moisturizing enough at first. The pump is such that you can get a wide variance in the amount of products that comes out, and I didn’t use enough that first time. The second time I used it, I used a full pump, and it was way too much. It took a long time for the serum to soak into the skin. I have since found a happy medium and know how much product I need for optimum results. I do like the serum now, and it’s extremely hydrating and feels lovely on the skin. I’m not totally convinced that it’s worth the splurge, though. There is so much competition when it comes to products like this. I do really like it, though. I’m on the fence with whether or not to repurchase this one, but I’m going to say that yes, it’s worth the splurge.
TROPICAL FRUIT SCRUB combination hydrating exfoliant scrub. Naturally fruity refreshing skin treatment that uses the power of Papaya and Pineapple Enzymes as a mild non-irritating exfoliant to remove dead skin, impurities and toxins without irritation caused by scrubbing. 96% certified organic. Gluten Free. Certified Vegan. The Tropical Fruit scrub is refreshing and very nice. I know that pineapple enzymes are really good for the skin, though I can’t remember why at the moment. 😉 The exfoliating particles aren’t too harsh, but they do give pretty decent exfoliation. I am personally not a big fan of scrubs like this, so I wouldn’t repurchase this product separately, however if you do like scrubs, it’s a really good choice that doesn’t have any harsh ingredients.
AVOCADO AND MANGO MASK extreme hydrating facial mask with Mango butter, rich in vitamin c, unites with nutrient rich organic seaweed extract to rejuvenate and gently moisturize dry, devitalized skin. Nourish and deeply hydrate with brazilian fruit butter, shea butter and a host of protective oils. Salicylic acid gently exfoliates dead skin cells revealing a fresher, glowing appearance. Revitalize while enhancing skin condition and restoring natural suppleness, elasticity and softness. 70% certified organic. Gluten free. This mask makes me laugh. I basically feel like I am applying pureed mango to my face. It smells so amazing and feels just how you would imagine pureed mango would feel on the skin. My skin feels very soft and supple afterward. As much as I enjoy the mask, I’m not sure that I would repurchase it. I preferred the Pumpkin Nutrient-Rich Facial Mask more than this one because I felt like it was doing more. That being said, the Avocado and Mango Mask does feel great.
I love all of the products that I purchased. I don’t mean to gush, but they are fantastic. Even the products that I feel aren’t necessarily worth the splurge of a repurchase are great products and I am really enjoying them. If you are concerned about ingredients and want organic products, I strongly recommend Michael Todd True Organics. I haven’t used the products geared toward oily skin obviously, but after using seven of their products and liking all of them, I’m sure that the rest of the line is pretty good. If you are interested in purchasing from michaeltoddtrueorganics.com, the Dry Skin regimen is currently being offered for $85.00 instead of $169.00 regularly. In addition the Anti-aging/Mature regimen is currently $85.00 instead of $180.00 for six products and the Oily/Acne-prone regimen is currently $70.00 instead of $131.00 for 5 products. That’s a substantial savings and drops the price of the products down to drugstore range, so now would be a good time to take advantage. The sale ends 9/30. I can’t say enough good things about Michael Todd True Organics. I would definitely recommend checking them out.
