Today I have my review for the new Maybelline Lash Sensational Mascara.  Lash Sensational was released for Spring 2015.  If you read my March Favorites post, then you already know that I am really enjoying Maybelline Lash Sensational Mascara.  It gives me a lot of length and a beautiful fanned out effect that I love.  It is hard to do mascara reviews because mascara is so subjective.  We all have such different needs when it comes to mascara.  For me, I look for a product that gives me length and volume in one coat, and that doesn’t clump or flake.  (I can’t stand spider lashes.)  I feel like Maybelline Lash Sensational really delivers.

Here is what Maybelline has to say about Lash Sensational: “Lash Sensational Mascara is the first patented fanning brush with 10 layers of bristles to reveal a full flourish of lashes. Liquid Ink formula coats from all sides for a sensational full fan effect.”  So, let’s talk about this brush.  It has a slight curve, and the bristles on the wand are different sizes.  The inside of the curve and the tip of the wand have short bristles, good for getting to the base of your lashes.  The bristles get larger on the side and the bristles on the outside of the curve are long and give lashes the “full fan effect” that Maybelline promises.   Here is a closer look at the wand.

Now let’s see Lash Sensational in action.  The top photo is my naked eye.  All I have done is curl my lashes, though my super straight lashes do not like to hold a curl.  As you can see, my short, stubby lashes need a lot of help.  The bottom photo has one coat of Lash Sensational.  You can see it is a vast improvement.  I like to stick to one coat when possible because I feel like piling on any mascara weighs my lashes down too much.  I’ll do two coats if I have to, but I love mascaras like Lash Sensational where I can get away with just one coat.  I love the length it gives me.  There is a little extra volume, but the wand does a great job of separating my lashes and making it look like I have more lashes than I really do.

For me, Maybelline Lash Sensational Mascara is a keeper.  Long fluttery lashes are my preferred look, and Maybelline Lash Sensational Mascara gives me what I need.  I had no issues with flaking or smudging, and I like the formula a lot.  Everyone has different needs and preferences with mascara, but I think it’s a great formula for me.  Maybelline has become my favorite drugstore brand for mascara.  Between Maybelline’s The Rocket Mascara and now Lash Sensational Mascara, Maybelline is doing it right.  What about you?  Have you tried Maybelline Lash Sensational Mascara?  What did you think?  What are the most important aspects for you when it comes to mascara?  Let’s talk lashes in the comments below.

About beautyinbudgetblog

I am a self proclaimed eyeshadow junkie whose main hobbies include shopping, reading, singing, and mainlining caffeine while hanging out with my friends. I love interesting socks and have amassed quite a collection. The place that I want to visit before I die would be Greece. I like to read all seven Harry Potter books once a year the way some people read the Lord of the Rings Trilogy. (Sorry JRRT, but JKR kicks butt in my book.) I love art, and use my creativity in many different ways through painting, crafts, and makeup. I love to cook and try new things, and I especially love to eat. My favorite "date" is to go wine tasting, and do so with my husband once or twice a year. I love musical theater and think the world would be much better off if we all just watched more musicals. I am 100% a cat person and, although I think dogs can be really cute and sweet, they make me sneeze so cats will always rule. I love faeries and magic, mythology, theology, philosophy, and psychology. I regularly do logic puzzles and sometimes crosswords. I adore Bette Midler, Betty White, and Carol Burnett. I am not ashamed to admit that I watch Glee. I would like to start making some of my own clothes because I can't stop myself from buying fabric. I'm sure that there is much more, but I'm suddenly distracted by something shiny.

  1. I haven’t tried this mascara yet, but it sounds great! I’m using the L’Oreal Voluminous Butterfly right now, and it’s growing on me. I really hated it at first, but I think it’s one of those that improves after a week or two.

    • I was wondering how similar the wand on Lash Sensational is to the L’Oreal Voluminous Butterfly. They seem similar, or am I wrong about that? It’s been a while since I looked at L’Oreal Voluminous Butterfly. I don’t remember using a L’Oreal mascara before, but I think it’s pretty common for them to need “drying out” before they really shine.

  2. I’ve been using Lash Sensational on and off for a couple of weeks now, and I’m still “undecided” I feel as though it gets a little clumpy and crispy when I build it up. I’m waiting to see if its performance improves after it “dries out” a bit.

    • Does it really? That’s interesting, because I haven’t had that issue at all. But then again, as I mentioned in the post, I tend to go light on my mascara so maybe that’s why. I do hope that it improves for you.
