Ulta Haul

It’s haul time y’all.  I have been so good so far this year at not buying any beauty products, but I definitely took advantage of Ulta’s 21 Days of Beauty and their 20% off coupon to pick up some great deals and some items that had been on my wish list for a while.  I didn’t get all of this at once.  This is three orders spread out over the last four or five weeks.  Let’s take a look.

BECCA Best Of Becca Blushed Radiance set

BECCA Best Of Becca Blushed Radiance set

BECCA Best Of Becca Blushed Radiance set: Create the iconic BECCA glow with a collection of bestselling products that impart natural luminosity and a subtle flush of colour. Includes: Mineral Blush in Flower Child (0.087 oz), Shimmering Skin Perfector Pressed in Opal (0.085 oz), Shimmering Skin Perfector Spotlight Wand in Moonstone (0.17 oz), and Backlight Priming Filter (0.2 oz).  I have been wanting to try some more Becca products for the last year or so.  I only have one small sample size of the Shimmering Skin Perfector in Opal and it’s beautiful.  I’ve missed out on previous sets like this, so I could not resist this one.  When I received the Platinum 20% off perk, I added this to my cart right away.  I am so excited to try these products out.

LORAC Riesling Romance Palette and CC Cream

LORAC Riesling Romance Palette and CC Cream

LORAC Riesling Romance Palette and CC Cream: LORAC’s Color Correcting (CC) Cream instantly neutralizes redness and imperfections with a natural-looking, semi-matte finish. This 6-in-1 specially-tinted makeup neutralizes, primes, moisturizes, brightens, soothes and helps your skin look healthy and youthful. CC Cream is oil, silicone, paraben and fragrance free and is suitable for all skin types.  Both of these items were 21 DoB deals.  The Riesling Romance Palette was a Black Friday special that I missed out on, so I wanted to pick it up when I saw that it was back.  The CC Cream was a gamble for me.  I don’t have a lot of experience with CC Creams, but I like Lorac, so at half price I wanted to give it a shot.

Stila One Step Correct Triple Swirl Helix Primer

Stila One Step Correct Triple Swirl Helix Primer

Stila One Step Correct Triple Swirl Helix Primer: This primer, color corrector, brightener and anti-aging skincare serum does it all with the help of Stila’s Youth Revival Bio-Available Mineral Complex. Green tone instantly neutralizes redness and conceals blemishes. Lavender tone counteracts sallow undertones for a vibrant, energized look. Peach tone brightens, illuminates and helps diminish the appearance of sun spots. The weightless, creamy formula blends imperceptibly into skin and won’t clog pores or settle into fine lines…so all anyone will notice is your perfectly flawless skin!  I had heard some good things about this primer, and color correction is something that I definitely need.  The 21 DoB price point was easier for me to swallow than regular price, so I went ahead and took the plunge.  I’ve tried it a few times so far, and am still making up my mind.  I’m glad that I got it, but I’m not sure that I love it yet.

Makeup Revolution New-Trals vs. Neutrals Eyeshadow Palette

Makeup Revolution New-Trals vs. Neutrals Eyeshadow Palette

Makeup Revolution New-Trals vs. Neutrals Eyeshadow Palette: New-Trals are the new Neutrals! Upgrade your new natural eye looks with the new generation of natural shades in Makeup Revolution’s New-Trals vs. Neutrals.  I have been really enjoying the products that I have tried from Makeup Revolution, and this palette is gorgeous.  It was already in my wish list when all the hype for the Too Faced Sweet Peach Palette hit.  I see some similar shades in this palette to the Sweet Peach.  I’m not saying that they are dupes, but I think this palette will help stave off the temptation to buy the Peach palette.  Since this palette is $10, you can use the Ulta $3.50 off of $10 coupon and get it for $6.50, which is worlds better than the $49 for the Too Faced palette.

Essence Lash Princess Volume Mascara and

Essence Lash Princess Volume Mascara and CoverGirl The Super Sizer Mascara

Essence Lash Princess Volume Mascara: Get the royal treatment! Essence’s Lash Princess Volume Mascara is presented in a fantastic evening gown design and has a unique wand applicator designed for extra control to reach every lash. The prestige inspired cobra brush is specially shaped to lift, separate, and cover each individual lash for the most majestic volumeCoverGirl The Super Sizer Mascara: The CoverGirl Super Sizer Mascara gives you 400% more volume for fuller lashes.  I’ve been having problems with mascara lately.  I’ve been trying to go through all of the samples and gift with purchase mascaras that I have, but I haven’t been liking any of them.  I have heard a lot of people rave about this CoverGirl mascara for the last year, so I am finally going to bite the bullet and try it out.  I also picked up the Essence Lash Princess because I have used it before and know that I really like it.  So, if the CoverGirl mascara bombs, at least I’ll have a mascara that I know I will enjoy to fall back on.

Real Techniques Brush Cleansing Palette

Real Techniques Brush Cleansing Palette

Real Techniques Brush Cleansing Palette: The Real Techniques Brush Cleansing Palette helps sweep away makeup, oil, and impurities from bristles to give you truer, more consistent color application. Performance-grade silicone is lightweight and ergonomically designed to fit comfortably over your hand. Exclusive multi-textured surfaces designed to gently work between the bristles for enhanced deep cleansing. All synthetic materials that are easy to clean, and 100% cruelty-free. Heat resistant and dishwasher safe.  I had to try this new Real Techniques Brush Cleansing Palette.  This is an obvious drugstore take on the Sigma Spa Brush Cleaning products that are ridiculously priced.  This handy little gadget is about $15, which some of you may still this is ridiculously priced, but again, you can use the Ulta $3.50 off of $10 coupon to knock it down to $11.50.  With two brush cleanser samples included, I thought it was a reasonable price to try it out.  Anything to make brush cleaning faster and more efficient.

So that’s my haul.  I should be set for some time.  Several of these items have been in my wish list for a while, so I’m very excited to play with them.  Did you take advantage of Ulta’s 21 days of Beauty?  How about the 20% off coupon for Platinum members?  Or have you been saving your money for Sephora’s spring sale?  Let me know what you’ve been hauling in the comments below.

Essence Lash Princess Volume Mascara

Essence Lash Princess Volume Mascara

Essence Lash Princess Volume Mascara

Today I want to tell you about Essence Lash Princess Volume Mascara.  A couple years ago, I tried Essence I Love Extreme Crazy Volume Mascara, but wasn’t a fan.  It was clumpy and flaky, and I disliked it so much that it took two years for me to try another Essence Mascara.  I finally decided to give Essence another chance, largely because they are so inexpensive.  I hate spending a lot of money on mascara, and the Lash Princess Volume Mascara is only $4.99.  And, let’s be frank, the adorable packaging won me over.  It also looked like the formula  had potential.  Here is what Essence has to say: “Get the royal treatment! Essence’s Lash Princess Volume Mascara is presented in a fantastic evening gown design and has a unique wand applicator designed for extra control to reach every lash. The prestige inspired cobra brush is specially shaped to lift, separate, and cover each individual lash for the most majestic volume.”  I’ve been using Lash Princess Volume Mascara for about a month now, and (spoiler alert) I love it!

Essence Lash Princess Volume Mascara Packaging

Essence Lash Princess Volume Mascara Packaging

Let’s start with the packaging.  The evening gown inspired design with the corset style lacing and bows is simply irresistible.  I honestly could not help myself.  It looks so pretty that I want to leave it out to admire it instead of putting it away in my makeup drawer.  I am a sucker for really cute packaging, and Essence nailed it with this one.  What’s especially great is that the designs on the handle are not just cute, but also functional.  The the coral designs are rubberized, so the handle has an easy, no-slip grip.  It fits comfortably in the hand, and provides good control over application.  The wand has a curved “S” shape that is pretty popular these days.  Take a look.

Essence Lash Princess Volume Mascara

Essence Lash Princess Volume Mascara Wand

Here is a close up of the wand brush head.  The wand reminds me a lot of the LORAC Cobra Mascara that was featured in my Monthly Favorites for January.  The bristles on the curvy wand really grab my lashes and give me excellent length.  It even helps curl them up a little.  It does not clump and give me spider lashes, which was the issue with the last Essence mascara I tried.  I don’t know that I would call Essence Lash Princess Volume Mascara an extremely volumizing mascara.  It adds volume, but the real star here for me is the added length.

Naked Eye

Naked Eye

Here is a look at my naked eye.  All I have done is curl my lashes (no really, I did).  As you can see, I have short, stubby lashes naturally.  They are very straight, and do not like to hold a curl.  Essence Lash Princess Volume Mascara thickens them up a bit, and adds twice the length in only one or two coats.  I had no issues with flaking or smudging.  Everyone has different needs and preferences with mascara, but I think it’s a great formula for me.

Essence Lash Princess Volume Mascara

Essence Lash Princess Volume Mascara

I am a fan of Essence Lash Princess Volume Mascara, and definitely recommend that you try it for yourself.  Again, it is only $4.99 which is several dollars less than other drugstore brands.  I find Essence at my local Ulta and ulta.com.  I think the formula performs admirably, and is just as good as L’Oreal, CoverGirl, or Maybelline mascaras.  I am really enjoying the new products that I have been trying from Essence, and am impressed with the brand overall.  Essence Lash Princess Volume Mascara is a win for me.

Essence 3D EyeShadow

Standard
Essence 3D EyeShadow

Essence 3D EyeShadow

Today I have two of the new Essence 3D EyeShadow duos to show you.  Essence is a brand that I have limited experience with, but I have mostly enjoyed what I’ve tried, so I wanted to try some more products from their line.  For those of you who are not familiar with Essence, it is a German brand that launched in 2001 and hit America in 2008.  They are known for their affordability.  I have only ever found Essence at Ulta, so last time I was shopping there I decided to try some Essence eyeshadows, and these duos caught my eye.  Here is what Essence has to say about them: “New and improved! Essence’s 3D Eyeshadows provide a smoother and silkier texture that is easy to blend. The new color-duos range from neutrals to jewel tones with high pigmentation. Apply with a damp brush for more intensity and maximum impact. Available in 6 irresistible shade duos in satin, metallic, and shimmering finishes.”  Let’s take a closer look.

Essence 3D EyeShadow in Irresistible Choco Cupcake

Essence 3D EyeShadow in Irresistible Choco Cupcake

The first Essence 3D EyeShadow duo I have is in Irresistible Choco Cupcake.  It is a pairing of light, icy pink and deep, dark chocolate brown.  I find the formula very easy to work with, and the shadows have really nice pigmentation.  I always recommend using an eye primer, but especially with these shimmery metallic shades because there can be issues with fall out.  A primer helps the shadows adhere, and increases longevity.  I was able to achieve a bold, crease-free look that lasted all day with this duo.  Here is a swatch:

Essence 3D EyeShadow in Irresistible Choco Cupcake

Essence 3D EyeShadow in Irresistible Choco Cupcake

This swatch of Irresistible Choco Cupcake is on bare skin, no primer at all.  You can see that it has great pigmentation, and that brown is pretty dark.  The pink comes off as more of a champagne shade on the skin, and not nearly as pink as it looks in the packaging.  It is a beautiful pairing, and I definitely recommend  Irresistible Choco Cupcake.

Essence 3D Eyeshadow in Irresistible Caramel Cream

Essence 3D Eyeshadow in Irresistible Caramel Cream

The second Essence 3D Eyeshadow duo I picked up was in Irresistible Caramel Cream.  This is a lighter shade than Choco Cupcake and the finish is more of a pearl shimmer than straight up metallic.  I thought that the formula was equally smooth and easy to work with, and there was a little less fall out with this duo.  Still, I recommend a primer to increase wear-time.  Otherwise, you can expect a solid six hours before the shadows begin to fade.  I had no issue with creasing either with or without primer.  Let’s take a look at the swatch.

Essence 3D Eyeshadow in Irresistible Caramel Cream

Essence 3D Eyeshadow in Irresistible Caramel Cream

Essence 3D Eyeshadow in Irresistible Caramel Cream looks similar to Irresistible Choco Cupcake in the packaging, but there is actually a pretty big difference in the shades.  The lighter shade in the duo looks like it may have some pink tones in the packaging, but it actually comes off as as white gold on the skin.  The brown shade is a medium caramel color.  The duo provides a more subtle eye look, perfect for those who prefer a natural eye.  Here are swatches of the two duos next to each other so that you can compare them.  Irresistible Choco Cupcake is on the left and Irresistible Caramel Cream is on the right.  Again, this is over bare skin, no primer.

(L-R) Irresistible Choco Cupcake and Irresistible Caramel Cream

(L-R) Irresistible Choco Cupcake and Irresistible Caramel Cream

I really like the new Essence 3D Eyeshadows.  The two duos that I tried were both very nice with good formulas and great pigmentation.  I prefer Irresistible Choco Cupcake because I like the bolder looks that I can create with that deep chocolate brown, but that’s just me.  The Essence 3D Eyeshadow duos are $3.49 at ulta.com and Ulta stores.  There are four other shades in the line available in the US.  I definitely recommend checking them out.

Ulta Haul- New Items from NYX, Essence, and Maybelline

Ulta Haul

Ulta Haul

I have an Ulta haul to show you today that is full of new products for Spring.  I will definitely be reviewing most of these products in the upcoming weeks, so I wanted to give you an idea of what new items are out there, and what you can expect to see coming up here on the blog.  Ulta had some Buy One, Get One 50% off sales happening when I ordered, plus 20% off, so I actually scored these products for a pretty good price.  So let’s get into it.

Spongeables

Spongeables Pedi-Scrub Foot Buffer

First off, an item that I needed to repurchase and one that I have mentioned several times on the blog is the Spongeables Pedi-Scrub Foot Buffer.  I usually get the pink version that has a Lavender and Tee Tree Oil scent, but they were out.  Instead I opted for the Citron Eucalyptus version, which is a nice scent, but pretty strong.  I love these scrubbers and I have been missing Spongeables while I’ve been out of them.  I definitely notice a difference when I don’t use them.  Ulta had them BOGO 50% off, and that sale is still currently on.

New from NYX

New from NYX

And now we move on to some brand new products from NYX Cosmetics.

  • NYX Intense Butter Gloss in Toasted Marshmallow- Smother your lips with a silky gloss bursting with color! Our Intense Butter Gloss has the same mouth-watering texture and scent of the original formula with even more color payoff in 12 new delectable shades.
  • NYX High Definition Blush in Summer- A high definition, lightweight blush that blends evenly. NYX Cosmetics vibrant and silky HD Blush delivers a beautiful flush of color and is paraben free.
  • NYX High Voltage Lipsticks in Free Spirit, Wine & Dine, and Dirty Talk- Power up your look with 22-super charged shades of lipstick that are high voltage! Don’t be afraid to swipe on a thick coat for a super-rich finish of dramatic color with NYX Cosmetics High Voltage Lipstick.

Right now, Ulta has all NYX lip products for BOGO 50% off.  I can’t wait to get all of these items photographed and swatched so that I can start testing them.  The Intense Butter Gloss and HD Blushes are available on NYX’s website, but as of this posting the High Voltage Lipsticks aren’t yet listed.

Maybelline Master Glaze and Master Conceal

Maybelline Master Glaze and Master Conceal

I went ahead and picked up the new Maybelline Master Conceal that I showed you yesterday.  I chose the shade “Light” and will be testing the concealer immediately so that I can get a review up as soon as possible.  I know that many of you will be curious to see how well it works.  I also finally picked up Maybelline Master Glaze Glistening Blush Stick in “Make a Mauve”.  I’ve been wanting “Make a Mauve” since it came out last year, but hadn’t gotten around to it.  I am so excited to finally have in it my possession.

New Essence Eyeshadow

New Essence Eyeshadow

I also grabbed some new items from Essence.  Essence is a brand that I have very little experience with.  I have found their products to be kind of hit and miss.  Some have been truly fantastic, though, so I definitely want to try more of their lineup, especially because Essence is so affordable.  Here is what I purchased:

  • Essence 3D Eyeshadow in Choco Cupcake
  • Essence 3D Eyeshadow in Caramel Cream
  • Essence Metal Glam Eyeshadow in Choco Chic
  • Essence Metal Glam Eyeshadow in Frosted Apple
Essence Lash Princess mascara

Essence Lash Princess mascara

The last item that I purchased is Essence Lash Princess Mascara.  “Get the royal treatment! Essence’s Lash Princess Volume Mascara is presented in a fantastic evening gown design and has a unique wand applicator designed for extra control to reach every lash. The prestige inspired cobra brush is specially shaped to lift, separate, and cover each individual lash for the most majestic volume.”  I totally bought this mascara for the freaking adorable packaging.  Just kidding.  (Sort of.)  Really though, I think that it will be a great formula to try and only $4.99.

I am very excited about all of my purchases.  I will be testing and swatching so that I can get the reviews up for you as soon as possible.  Please let me know in the comments below which new products you are the most interested in so that I can give those products priority.  Have you purchased any of these items?  Tell me what your experience was with them if you have.  Are any of these items on your wish list?  Let me know.

Products I Regret Buying

Products I Regret Buying

Though I generally try to stay positive on this blog, I did a “Products I Regret Buying” post a really long time ago and thought it was time for another one.  Some of these items are newer and some I’ve been sitting on for a while, knowing that I was going to get around to this post eventually.  I personally find posts like this very helpful because in a sea of positive reviews, it’s good to see what product I should not waste my money on.  Obviously we are all different, and just because a product didn’t work for me doesn’t mean that it won’t work for someone else.  However, it’s important to note when a product has problems and then you can decide for yourself if it is worth the risk.

regretsLorac

Lorac Self-Tantalizer Body Bronzing Gradual Self-Tanner

Let’s start with my one higher-end product.  This is Lorac Self-Tantalizer Body Bronzing Gradual Self-Tanner.  I didn’t get the full size product, so this is the travel sized bottle.  I had heard some great reviews for the Lorac self-tanner, but after using it three times, I think it’s terrible.  It looks splotchy on me no matter how I apply it.  With my hands it was a streaky mess.  With a glove I didn’t get streaks, but had odd splotchy places.  Granted, there could be some user error involved, but I didn’t have that problem with other self-tanners I’ve tried.  I’m sensitive to self-tanner smell, and this one was really strong.  I wasn’t thrilled with the color and felt it looked too fake.  Even after it dried, I had problems with transferring color onto clothing.  The worst, though, was that one time my legs got splashed with water and you could see the streaks in my tanner where the water dripped down my leg.  This was on day 2, so it should have been completely dry and set by that point.  This is a terrible product in my opinion, especially for the price.  A full sized bottle is $34.  No thank you.

regretsCabana

Wet n Wild ColorIcon Bronzer in Reserve Your Cabana

I’m going to surprise some of you with Wet n Wild ColorIcon Bronzer in Reserve Your Cabana.  I know that this is a hugely popular product for a subtle highlight.  I’m not into really intense highlighting products, so I thought that it would be perfect for me.  I’ve tried to use it every which way, but Reserve Your Cabana just doesn’t do anything for me.  I think it looks chalky on my skin and the limited payoff isn’t worth the hassle of trying to make it work.  I often see this product pop up in favorites videos on youtube, and I just don’t get it.  I appreciate that, because WnW is so inexpensive, I didn’t waste very much money on it at all, but I still think Reserve Your Cabana is not worth the hype and I could do without.

regretsPrimer

Pixi Brightening Primer No.1 Pearl Essence

Next is the Pixi Brightening Primer.  Now, don’t get this confused with the Pixi Flawless & Poreless Primer which is really great.  To be fair, the Brightening Primer isn’t really bad, per se, but it wasn’t what I was expecting.  The formula is nice and it certainly does brighten, but it’s a little too much going on for my taste.  The primer contains pearl powder that leaves a satin finish with a touch of shimmer on the skin, which looks beautiful at first.  I have dry skin, so I wanted to help it out by giving myself a little illumination.  When my makeup was first applied, it gave a lovely lit from within glow.  The problem came half way through the day as my foundation began to fade.  I looked in the mirror and I looked like an oil slick.  Keep in mind, I have dry skin.  The shiny appearance was all due to this brightening primer.  I felt like I was reflecting light like a disco ball.  As stated above, I prefer subtle highlight and the pearl powder was way too much for me.  I’ve had this product for a long time, and I’m pretty sure that I got it right as it was on it’s way out of Target, but you can still purchase it online.  It has also made me really wary of other liquid illuminators and brightening primers.  I would steer clear, unless you are serious about your illumination.

regretsmascara

Essence I Love Extreme Crazy Volume Mascara

A product that is getting a lot of notice right now is the Essence I Love Extreme Crazy Volume Mascara.  I had seen several really positive reviews about this mascara, so I picked it up a few months back.  I was really surprised at how much I dislike it.  Seriously, I hate this stuff.  First of, it didn’t provide me with any volume at all.  It did give me nice length, but it’s called Crazy Volume, not crazy length.  I had flaking issues every time I wore it.  The worst thing, though was how badly it clumped.  This was a recipe for horrible clumpy spider lashes.  No thank you.  I’ve enjoyed Essence in the past and it’s a very affordable brand, but this is a truly crap product for me.  Mascara is tough to review because everyone has a different expectation or preference for their lashes.  Like I said, this product is getting a lot of positive feedback, but I am not a fan.

regretsRevlon

Revlon Photoready Eye Primer + Brightener

Finally is the Revlon Photoready Eye primer + Brightener.  This product sucks.  It is so terrible.  It has a clicky pen dispenser, and the idea is that it can double as an eye primer and an under eye brightener.  Unfortunately, the product has a greasy formula that will make your shadows crease.  It also doesn’t really brighten because it is so sheer that it completely disappears.  It’s hard to say how long it lasts on the skin because you can’t see it at all.  Truly, of all of the products that I have mentioned today, this is the worst of the lot.  Don’t waste your money on this product.

I hope that this post can save you some money by knowing what products to avoid.  Again, I’m not saying that these products can’t work for other people, and some have many good reviews, but they certainly didn’t work for me.  Hopefully you found this helpful.  If you have tried any of these products, let me know in the comments below what your experiences were.

New from Revlon, Burt’s Bees, and More

Standard

I spotted some interesting new displays while I was at Ulta and Target last week.

Revlon PhotoReady Primer + Shadow Palettes

First up at Ulta, are the new Revlon PhotoReady Primer + Shadow Palettes.  Limitless LooksOne PaletteNo Guesswork. is what the display claims.  Each palette includes three shadows, one “primer” and one sparkle topcoat.  I use quotation marks because what Revlon is calling a “primer” is another powder eyeshadow that is used to even out the color of your eyelid.  I wonder if that “primer” shadow interferes with the other shades in the palette and if it helps the look last longer in any way.  It doesn’t make sense to me that it would act as a primer if it is just a powder shadow, but I did not buy a palette so I can’t be sure.  If you have one of these Revlon PhotoReady Primer + Shadow Palettes, I’d love to know how the primer and the sparkle topcoat are working for you.

Essence Breaking Dawn Part 2 Collection

Next at Ulta, I found this Essence Breaking Dawn Part 2 Collection.  Included are 2 sparkly lip gloss shades, 2 glitter eyeliner shades, a shimmer powder, a blush, a lipstick, 3 loose pigment eyeshadow shades, and four nail polish shades.  I almost purchased the blush, a gorgeous pinkish red, but ditched it at the last minute because I already have Tarte Natural Beauty that is a similar color.  The collection is a little cheesy and super sparkly, but Twi-hard fans will want to snatch it up.

Ecotools and Tweezerman Holiday 2012

Finally at Ulta, I found these neat little tools sets.  On the left is the Ecotools Day-to-night 6-piece brush set.  Ecotools brushes are pretty nice, so this cute little gift set would be a good one.  On the right is the Tweezerman merry manicure set.  For only $5.00, it would make a great stocking stuffer.

Burt’s Bees Holiday 2012

When I was at target snapping shots of their huge e.l.f. holiday collection that I showed you last week, I also got pics of this Burt’s Bees holiday display.  There are a ton of lip products, as well as creams, lotions, and balms.

Burt’s Bees Holiday 2012

Burt’s Bees Holiday 2012

There should be many more holiday displays popping up over the next couple of weeks.  I can’t believe that Thanksgiving is already practically here!  November has been flying by.  If you have purchased any of these products, I’d love to know how they are working out for you.  Tell me in the comments below.

October 2012 Monthly Favorites

Standard

October 2012 Favorites

It’s that time again.  For those of you who are new to this blog, “Monthly Favorites” are the items that really stood out to me and that I reached for over and over again throughout the month.  As a complete aside, did any of you ever watch Veggie Tales?  In every Veggie Tales video (I’m dating myself) there was always an intermission type moment called “Silly Songs with Larry” and the announcer would always give the same spiel when it came on.  Every single episode he’d say “Now it’s time for Silly Songs with Larry, the part of the show where Larry comes out and sings a silly song.”  I feel like I do the same thing in my monthly favorites post, like I’m saying “Now it’s time for Monthly Favorites with Teresa, the part of the blog where Teresa comes out and shows her favorites of the month”.  I don’t know if that’s necessarily a problem, but I was struck by a certain similarity in my approach, especially now that I have two blogs with a monthly favorites series.  Speaking of, you can now check out my non-beauty favorites over at my new blog Defies Description, including my home-made pumpkin butter that I’m extremely proud of.  I hope that you check it out.  Anyway, enough babbling.  On to my favorites.

Jouer Lip Enhancer

A somewhat surprising favorite is the Jouer Lip Enhancer Conditioning Lip Treatment.  I got this sample a while ago in a Birchbox.  I tried it out when I got it, liked it, but threw it in my purse and promptly forgot all about it.  My lips have been really dry this month, so I pulled it out of my purse and started using it again.  I love it.  The Jouer Lip Enhancer is super moisturizing and makes my lips feel great.  I’ve been using it at night before bed, and it has been keeping my lips from cracking in the extreme weather changes we’ve had here in NC.  I’m pretty  much at the end of my sample, but I am going to purchase a full size from Birchbox when I redeem my loyalty points for sure.  Good stuff!

Essence Colour & Go polish in Gorgeous Bling Bling

I showed this Essence Colour & Go nail polish in Gorgeous Bling Bling in an Ulta haul.  It is such a beautiful color, despite the most ridiculous name ever.  Seriously, who names these things?  Anyway, it’s a perfect pumpkin spice color that has just enough red in it to be universally flattering.  The subtle flakes are still professional and add dimension without being flashy.  I love this shade, and will be wearing it much more throughout the rest of the Fall season.

Pixi Flawless & Poreless Primer

For those of you who are not fans of the silicon primers that I keep recommending, here is a good primer for your to try.  Pixi Flawless & Poreless Primer in No. 1 Translucent has worked really well for me.  Keep in mind, I have dry skin and can’t say how it will perform on oily skin, but it does claim to be shine free and oil free.  For me, it did a great job of helping my foundation go on evenly which can be tricky with my uneven skin, and it lasted all day with no issue.  Pixi can be pricey, so I’m a little hesitant to recommend it.  This primer is $29 at Target, which is a lot for primer, and I only have it because it was a gift.  But, if you don’t mind paying a little more, I thought that Pixi Flawless & Poreless Primer was a good one that lived up to its name.

e.l.f. Gotta Glow

I’ve been on a highlighting kick lately, and I’ve been reaching for my e.l.f. Studio Blush in Gotta Glow over and over again.  I really like the way it looks on my skin.  I have a post comparing it swatched to NARS Albatross that you can find here.  Gotta Glow is really nice on the skin, and for $3.00 you can’t really beat it.

Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stain in Adore

Last month I featured Romantic, and this month I’ve been using the Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stain in Adore.  Adore is deeper and more of a brick red than Romantic.  What can I say?  I love the Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stains, and think that they are a fantastic line of products.  If you haven’t tried them yet, do pick some up.

Tarte Natural Beauty

Now that the colder months are in full swing, darker blushes are more acceptable.  I love dark blushes.  It’s a little crazy, because I avoided bush for years due to my red cheeks.  I figured, why make them redder, you know?  But darker blushes actually help to camouflage my rosacea, so I am a big blush fan these days.  Tarte Amazonian Clay 12-Hour Blushes are great and super popular, so I’m sure that you are familiar with them.  Natural Beauty is a deep reddish pink shade that is so beautiful.  It would look fantastic on medium and dark skin tones, but even a white girl like me can pull it off with a light enough hand.  The key to a dark blush is to use a stipple brush as to not apply too much product.  The swatch below was just done with my fingers to apply and blend so it’s a little heavy, but even so, you can see that the color doesn’t have to be as intimidating as it looks in the pan.  Natural Beauty is a truly lovely shade.

Natural Beauty

That’s it for my October favorites.  I am so excited that the weather has gotten cold and that the Holiday Season is upon us.  This is my favorite time of the year.  Be sure to check out my non-beauty favorites on my other blog.  Let me know what you’ve been loving this month in the comments below.
