Liquid Peel-off Tape

I have something really fun to show you today.  This is Liquid Peel-off Tape from the Born Pretty Store.  Those of you who are into nail art may have used a liquid latex or liquid tape type product before, but I haven’t.  I had heard of it and seen some demonstrations, so I was really excited to give it a try.  Before I get into the review, though, I want to remind you that I have several reviews for other products that I have received from the Born Pretty Store, and you can see the other BPS reviews I have done by clicking on the Born Pretty Store link in the “Categories” section on the right hand side of the blog.  So, let’s get into it.

Peel-off Liquid Tape

Peel-off Liquid Tape

For those who haven’t ever seen a product like this before, Liquid Peel-off Tape is something that you apply around your nail to act as a barrier between your skin and the polish.  It dries very quickly, and then can be easily peeled off of your skin.  This is especially useful for stamping large patterns over the nail, or sponge painting your nails.  These techniques can be pretty messy and involve a lot of clean up.  The liquid Tape drastically cuts down on that.  I’ve never used a product like this, but I found Born Pretty’s Liquid Peel-off Tape to be very easy to use.  The real key to using it successfully is to apply a thick coat of Liquid Tape to the skin.  Thicker coats peel of easily and cleanly.  Thinner coats may break when peeling, or turn flaky, so be sure to apply a thick coat.  I recommend using tweezers to peel it off so that you don’t mess up your polish.  To demonstrate, I chose to sponge paint a sheer ombré look using Wet n Wild Megalast polish in I Need a Refresh-Mint and Candy-Licious.

As you can see, the sponge painting was a big mess.  When I peeled off the Liquid Tape, however, my thumb was pretty clean.  I still have to go in and tighten up the edges, but clean up is much easier and faster using the Liquid Tape.  I definitely recommend this product.  I usually don’t do a lot of messy manicures, but now that I have the Liquid Tape, I may play around with new techniques.  It is so much easier now with this product in my arsenal.  The Liquid Peel-off Tape is currently on sale for $2.99 at the Born Pretty Store.

Today I am reviewing another stamping plate from the Born Pretty Store, and it is one that you are going to want to check out.  I have several reviews for products that I have received from the Born Pretty Store, and you can see the other BPS reviews I have done by clicking on the Born Pretty Store link in the “Categories” section on the right hand side of the blog.  I have to say that I kind of love this stamping plate from Born Pretty.  The designs are adorable and you can get so many looks out of it.

Born Pretty calls this one the Cute Windmills Nail Art Stamping Plate.  I used the peacock feather design when I reviewed the gold stamping polish last week, so you can click the link to see that one.  This plate is so varied that I wasn’t sure how to show you all the designs in one look.  Ultimately, I decided to just do each nail with a different design so you could see as many stamps as possible.  I had a little trouble with a couple of the designs, but I used Sinful Colors Black on Black instead of a proper stamping polish.  I am getting toward the end of the bottle and that may be the issue.  I am satisfied with how the designs came out, but a true stamping polish would create much cleaner lines.  I really love the pinwheel and heart designs on this plate.  I was also really impressed with how crisp and clean the tribal strip pattern stamped.  I really like this plate and I am glad to have it in my collection.  I can see myself using it a lot.

Gold Stamping Polish from the Born Pretty Store

Gold Stamping Polish from the Born Pretty Store

Gold Stamping Polish from the Born Pretty Store

I have another Born Pretty review for you today, this time for this lovely gold stamping polish.  I have several reviews for products that I have received from the Born Pretty Store, and you can see the other BPS reviews I have done by clicking on the Born Pretty Store link in the “Categories” section on the right hand side of the blog.  For those of you who are new to nail stamping, a stamping polish has a slightly thicker formula than a regular polish that gives you an opaque stamped image every time.  So many of the reviews raved about how opaque the polishes are, that I had to give them a try.  There are 19 shades in this range of stamping polish.  I chose this gold shade (shade #1) because I find that I tend to stamp with gold a lot, usually with e.l.f. Pot of Gold.  It looked like a great color for me to try.

This photo is straight from the Born Pretty website.  You can see how clearly the gold polish stamps over a white or black base.  The product photos were impressive, so I decided that I would really put the gold polish to the test.  I chose to use Sinful Colors Gorgeous for my base color.  It is a metallic teal shade.  I figured that if a metallic gold polish could stand out against an equally metallic shade than it would be proof that it’s a great stamping polish.  Gorgeous is a very difficult shade to photograph because it reflects light so much, but I hope that you can see how the gold performed.  The lines of this complicated peacock feather stamp are perfectly crisp.  It didn’t skip and it is pretty opaque.  This gold and teal is a tough color combination, but I think the gold really stood up to the test.

I like the gold stamping polish, and am going to get a lot of use out of it.  It performs well, especially over a different base color than I used here.  It is currently on sale for $4.79 at the Born Pretty Store.  As I’ve mentioned in previous reviews, the Born Pretty Store is located in China, so shipping will take a while.  It is normal for orders to take 2-4 weeks to ship to the US, and in my experience, I have gotten most of my orders within 2-3weeks.  You should definitely plan ahead if you are ordering something time sensitive (like for a vacation or holiday items) and order them early.  Orders ship within 24 hours.  Check out the BPS website bornprettstore.com, or their facebook page for more details.  For 10% off any regular priced items from the website, use coupon code BBBK31.

Have You Tried Nail Vinyls Yet?

BPS Nail Vinyl Stencils

BPS Nail Vinyl Stencils

The last time I did a nail accessory review, it was Chevron striping tape- a nifty new toy.  Well I have another unique item to show you, courtesy of the Born Pretty Store.  Today I want to show you some Nail Vinyl Stencils.  I have never seen them before, but they are a really neat tool to add to your nail arsenal.  The vinyls give you a manicure that seems so much more complicated than it really is.  Take a look.

These diecut vinyl stencils are self-adhesive.  Simply stick them onto your nail where you want to paint the pattern, and then brush the polish over them.  When you peel back the sticker, it will reveal a complicated looking pattern that was super easy to accomplish.  There are six patterns available on bornprettystore.com, and each package contains two patterns with six stencils each.  The stencils are single use only.  Depending on how long your nails are, you may be able to cut a stencil in half and use it on two nails.  Here are the patterns that I chose:

For my manicure, I used China Glaze Glittering Garland as my base color.  I chose the vinyl stencil with the X’s and dots on it, and painted China Glaze Ultimate Holiday over that.  Even though my nails were on the longer side, I was able to use one stencil for both nails.  I love the way it came out, and the stencils were really easy to use.  I am very happy that I have more patterns to experiment with because after my first use, I am a big fan.  The stencils are usually $4.59, but they are currently on sale for only $2.30.  I definitely recommend them.

Christmas Wonderland with BPS Chevron Striping Tape

Christmas Wonderland Manicure

Christmas Wonderland Manicure

Check out this adorable Christmas Wonderland Manicure I did using Chevron Striping Tape from the Born Pretty Store.  I love it!  I was really excited to bust out my holiday nail stickers.  I definitely want to do more manicures with them while I have the chance.  I was also really excited to use this new chevron striping tape.  I have used striping tape before, but I have never seen it in chevron pattern.  I knew that I had to try it immediately, and the Born Pretty Store was kind enough to send it to me for review.

The tape has a thin chevron line running through the center, so it separates into three parts.  I think that’s great because it make the tape even more versatile with the different designs that you can accomplish.  I chose the black shade because I thought that I would be most likely to use that shade as a decorative nail sticker as well as a striping tape.  Born Pretty also offers the tape in blue, white, red, silver, and gold.  The adhesive is really sticky, so I got a good seal on the nail and had no issues with polish leaking under the tape.  I’m not going to lie, using the tape can be time consuming, depending on how complicated your design is.  However, with practice, I am sure you can cut down on the time it takes just by familiarity with using the product.  Striping tapes are easier to use than they look, and even a beginner can accomplish some really complicated looking designs.

Christmas Wonderland Manicure

For my Christmas Wonderland Manicure I laid out the striping tape on my thumb, index finger, and little finger in the pattern that I pictured above on my naked nail.  I used Wet ‘n’ Wild Megalast in I Red a Good Book for the base color and SinfulColors Snow Me White for the stripes On my middle two fingers I used Snow Globe from China Glaze to make it look like it was snowing.  Then I flipped the larger edge of the striping tape upside down and used Snow Me White for the fallen snow.  I added a couple nail stickers that I bought last year and topped everything with Seche Vite.  I love how it came out.  The BPS Chevron Striping Tape is currently on sale for $1.47 a roll, and I highly recommend it.

Never Underestimate the Dollar Tree

Dollar Tree

I was shopping for outdoor Christmas decorations over the weekend, and I stumbled across a couple little gems at my local Dollar Tree.  I enjoy the Dollar Tree, and am often surprised by what I can find there.  I always go down the beauty aisle.  I don’t always find items that I am interested in, but there have been a few times that I have been lucky.  I’ve gotten a Milani eye liner and nail polish, NYC blush sticks, and Revlon nail wraps from the Dollar Tree.  This time around, I found a good number of Sally Hansen Salon Effects Nail Strips.

Sally Hansen Salon Effects

Sally Hansen Salon Effects

I have mentioned the Sally Hansen Salon Effects more times than I can count here on the blog.  I am a big fan.  They are so easy to use, and unlike other popular nail wraps, don’t require any heating elements or accessories.  Everything you need is included in the box.  Sally Hansen Salon Effects are usually $7-$10, so I was shocked to see them at the Dollar Tree.  I assume that these designs are either being discontinued or are from previous limited edition collections.  I know Laced Up has been a part of the permanent collection since the Sally Hansen Salon Effects first launched, so maybe it is being retired.  Still, they are stylish and I have no complaints.

These stickers seem to be having an identity crisis.  If you read the instruction, you can see that these are supposed to be water decals.  I’m pretty sure that when I ordered them (admittedly a while ago) they were advertised as water decals.  They are now clearly stated on the BPS website as nail stickers because they are definitely not decals.  Water won’t hurt them, and I soaked the first few thinking that they were water decals.  Here is a shot of the instruction on the back of the package but they are definitely stickers, and you should apply them like you would any other sticker.

I chose Ulta’s Nail Polish in Goddess as my base color because I love black lace over a nude base.  My nails are on the shorter side at the moment, so I chose to use the smaller lace pattern.  Each row was enough to cover five nails.  The stickers have a very strong adhesive, so you need to be very careful where you place them.  They do not want to come back up without pulling your polish with them, so make sure that you know where you want them to go.  On the plus side, though, that super sticky adhesive means that they won’t budge and wear a really long time.  Unfortunately the stickers are on the thicker side.  They feel stiff, and they have a visible raised line where the sticker edge is on the nail.  That’s the biggest reason that I prefer water decals to nail stickers, because water decals are so flat that you can’t see the edges.  If I had known that they were stickers, I would have used a different base color that would hide that edge a little better.  It is definitely less noticeable in real life then it is in photos.

The black “lace” is very pretty and the larger lace pattern would look amazing on longer nails.  If you like nail stickers for their ease and don’t mind a slightly raised edge, then these Black Lace Nail Stickers may be a good choice for you.  They are currently on sale at the BPS website for $0.99 and there are 4 pattern sheets to choose from, so if you are interested you should get over there soon. This is not an affiliate code, and I do not get any compensation from your purchases.  I just think that Born Pretty has some really cool products.
