Five Years Later it’s Time to Say Goodbye

Standard

goodbye-08

Five years ago I started BeautyinBudgetBlog. Five years. I didn’t know then what it would become. I don’t know if I would be any good at blogging. I didn’t know anything about product photography. I didn’t know if anyone would actually read it. And I didn’t know how important it would be to me. All I knew was that I loved makeup, and I wanted to talk about it.

Back then, it seemed like all the bloggers and Youtubers were talking about mid-range and high-end makeup, but very few people cared about drugstore. Here is what I put in the “About” section to describe BiBB. “My goal with this blog is to help you find awesome products that are also reasonably priced.  I like luxury products as much as the next girl, but not all of us are either willing or able to spend major bucks on our beauty items and I don’t think there is anything wrong with that.  There have been huge advances in what is available in drugstores and online over the last few years, and the products are often comparable to items many times their price.  I hope that this blog serves as proof that you don’t have to spend a fortune to look like a million bucks.” I think, five years later, that I can say that I accomplished what I started. It is so hard to tell what is worth spending our money on, and that was my primary goal.  I have gotten countless comments over the years with people telling me that this blog has saved them money and introduced them to products that they never would have considered otherwise.  I’ve gotten comments from women who had given up on makeup, but now have a renewed interest thanks to the blog.  Best of all, I’ve gotten comments from people who feel more beautiful and confident as a result of playing with techniques and products that they have discovered through this blog, and I could not think of a better compliment. I am so happy that I have had a positive impact on someone’s life, even in a small way.

It still amazes me that people from countries that I hadn’t even heard of have read my blog. I can’t believe how many comments I have received over the years, and all the people I have been able to interact with. I can’t believe that any of you cared what I had to say and took my opinion seriously. Thank you so much for all of the support you have given me. When I think about the connections that I have made and the feedback that I have gotten, I am blown away and humbled by the consistent love and support that I have been shown. It is what I am going to miss the most now, as I say goodbye.

Five years is the longest that I have ever worked on any single project in my entire life.  I am so proud of what I have done here with this blog. My writing and my photography have both improved so much, I and I feel like I have been able to consistently put out really solid, high-quality information. But it is definitely time to go. I don’t feel like I have anything else to say about beauty. It was a difficult decision to come to, and one that I have been wrestling with for about a year and a half. I thought about quitting when I moved from NC to CA, but I just couldn’t walk away. BiBB had become such a huge part of my life. Finally, I decided that I simply don’t feel as passionate about beauty blogging as I once did, and it’s time for me to focus on other projects. I have been slowly weaning myself off the blog by posting less and less throughout 2016. Now that I’ve reached this milestone, it’s time to officially say goodbye. Five years is a really good run.

I am not deleting this blog, or anything like that. I’ll keep BiBB in its current state, but I won’t be posting anymore. I do plan to keep up my writing, just not here. Some of you may remember that I started a personal blog in 2012. I wanted a place that I could talk about non-beauty subjects, but I could not keep up with regularly posting to two blogs at the same time, so this one took precedence. However, now that I am retiring BiBB, I plan to start posting over there again. If you want to keep up with me and read more of my writing, check out Defies Description.

Thank you for coming with me on this journey. It’s been a hell of a ride.

Quick Update on Where I’ve Been

Standard

update

Wow, this month has been crazy!  I just want to let you know that I am okay, but I have been dealing with a lot this month.  I am sorry that I haven’t been posting.  I have been very busy.  My band has had multiple shows, I am struggling with an injury, my sister-in-law had a baby, and we are dealing with a death in the family.  I was hoping to be able to come back from my hiatus and start posting regularly again, but things have just been nuts here on my end.  Thank you for your continued patience.  I hope to get back to reviewing soon.

Taking a Break

hiatus2copy

Hey everyone, I want to let you know that I will be taking a short hiatus from the blog.  I’m taking some time off, because life suddenly got crazy busy for me and I need to move my focus to another project that has a deadline in a couple weeks.  I am thinking that stepping away for a week or possibly two, should be enough to get me back in balance.  I have some exciting products that I am testing out right now like the Maybelline Dream Velvet Soft-Matte Hydrating Foundation, e.l.f. Lock On Liner and Brow Cream, and Catrice Liquid Metal Eyeshadow.  Influenster sent me several new L’Oreal Revitalift Volume Filler products to try.  You will definitely be seeing reviews for all of these products when I get back.  I am not going to do a January Favorites post, so next month will be a combined January and February Favorites.  I will definitely be back before my February Ipsy bag arrives.

Thanks for understanding.

Makeup Revolution Ultra Professional Blush Palette in Hot Spice

Makeup Revolution Ultra Professional Blush Palette in Hot Spice

I have the Makeup Revolution Ultra Professional Blush Palette in Hot Spice to show you today.  You may remember that I reviewed the Sugar and Spice palette in November.  Definitely check out that review for all of the information about these blush palettes.  Both palettes perform with the same great quality and I go into detail in the previous review.  Today I mostly want to show you swatches of the Hot Spice palette so you can decide which one would suit you best

The Makeup Revolution Blush Palettes are both sleek and thin, with a full mirror.  The packaging is sturdy plastic that clasps shut and is great for travel.  The palette contains eight shades in varying finishes.  All of the shades in the Hot Spice palette have peach and coral undertones, and are all warm shades.  If you have cool undertones to your skin, stick with the Sugar and Spice Palette.

Many of the shades in the Hot Spice Palette have some shimmer.  There are only two true matte shades.  The two shades on the far right of the palette are baked shimmery highlight shades, which I swatched last.

The first shade in the Hot Spice Palette is a dark, burnt orange shade with very subtle shimmer.  It is absolutely beautiful, but a little goes a long way.  The second shade is a warm medium pinky-nude shade with a matte finish, very wearable.  The third shade is a bright peachy pink with subtle shimmer.

The first shade of the second row is a very shimmery coral with orange undertones.  This shade has straight up glitter, which is unfortunate.  The second shade is matte and is a medium peachy nude.  It is very similar to the shade above it, but leans slightly less pink.  The third shade on the bottom row is a bright satiny peach.

The first of the two baked highlight shades looks cool toned in the palette next to all these super warm shades, but it swatches as a neutral pink shade.  The second baked shade is a fiery coral, really lovely on the right skin tone.

Just like the Sugar and Spice Palette, I think that the Makeup Revolution Ultra Professional Blush Palette in Hot Spice is a winner.  Unless you have very fair skin, I think that you can probably make most of these shades work for you.  You definitely need neutral or warm undertones, though.  Light-Medium skin will fall in the sweet spot, but there are some shades that will look gorgeous on deep skin too.  The Makeup Revolution Ultra Professional Blush Palettes are only $10, and can be found at ulta.com.  Some Ultas carry the brand in-store, but mine does not, so be sure to call first before you go.  Makeup Revolution is available for the $3.50 off of $10 coupon that Ulta always offers, so don’t forget to use it.

Have you heard about the new NYX Liquid Suede Cream Lipsticks yet? Don’t worry if you haven’t.  NYX hasn’t released them yet, but they are pimpin’ the hell out of them.  (Update: They released today 7/22 and are $7 each on NYX’s website.)  Those of you who are still loving the matte lip trend that is all over the place right now, will definitely want to check these out.  Here is the blurb from NYX: “Doll up your lips in plush color! This velvety soft and waterproof lippie glides on, then sets into a striking matte finish.”  Twelve new shades run the gamut from sweet and natural to bold and vampy, and even a steely gray with blue undertones.

I am not a huge fan of matte lips, but I have to admit that some of these shades have really caught my eye.  Also, by the swatches online, it looks like some of these sades may be more demi-matte than true matte which are more forgiving.  I am definitely looking at Soft-Spoken and Vintage.  A part of me even wants to give Stone Fox a try, though I doubt that I’d be able to pull it off.  What do you think?  Are you excited about the new NYX Liquid Suede Cream Lipsticks?  Will you be looking to get some when they come out?

The NYX Liquid Suede Cream Lipstick should be out soon.  They were originally scheduled for a June release date, but it got pushed back.  They will be available this summer for sure.  Check out nyxcosmetics.com for more details.

OnVacation

Hey everyone,

I just wanted to remind you that I am traveling this week, so there will probably be no new posts.  I was hoping to get something together ahead of time, but didn’t have the chance.  I will be back on Monday.

Have a good week!

P.S.  This is my 700th post!  Wow, who knew I had so much to say about makeup, haha.

40% Off Select Drugstore Brands at Ulta

40% Off at Ulta

40% Off at Ulta

A couple times a year Ulta offers a 40% off sale on certain drugstore brands, and that sale is on right now.  This time around the sale includes Maybelline, Revlon, Physicians Formula and Almay.  NYX is not included this time, unlike previous years, which is unfortunate.  There are still some great deals to be had, though.  Now would be a great time to pick up some new 2015 products from these brands like the Almay Smart Shade Lip Butters, Maybelline Lash Sensational Mascara, Revlon Ultra HD Lipstick, or the Physicians Formula Argan Wear products.  Don’t forget that you can also use the regular Ulta $3.50 off of $10 coupon that is available every week to pile on even more savings.  The 40% off sale is good through Saturday 4/18 and is valid in store and online.  Happy Shopping!
