How About a Birthday Haul?

Birthday haul

Birthday haul

Hey everyone, here is my birthday haul as requested.  I asked you a couple weeks ago if you would be interested in seeing a haul post for my birthday goodies and several of you said yes, so here it is.  This should go without saying because you all know me by now, but this post isn’t meant to be taken as bragging.  It’s all in the spirit of fun to be shared with other makeup addicts like myself.  I have been very good this year at not buying new makeup and saving money, so I felt that it was time to splurge and explore some higher end brands.  My birthday this year was divisible by five, so my husband and I got a little expansive.  There were several nice dinners, and some very cool non-beauty items, but this post is about the great makeup I received.  Some things were gifted to me, and some were things that I got on shopping trips.  Ulta had some great gifts with purchase, bonus point offers, and a 20% off sale in July.  They also give you 2x the points on all purchases made in your birthday month and a $10 off coupon on anything in the store.  I was able to wrack up quite a few points and will be saving them for any Holiday palettes I may be interested in later this year.  If you aren’t signed up for the rewards program, get to it.  It totally pays off, and it’s free to sign up.  I am going to break this up by brand for the most part.  If you see anything that you want a full review on, just let me know.

BareMinerals Birthday haul

BareMinerals Birthday haul

I will start with BareMinerals.  I have not tried a lot of bareMinerals in the past, but I have fallen in love with their Ready Eye Shadow formula and wanted to experiment with some more products from the brand.  Not wanting to commit to several full size products (and their price tags), I decided to go with these great trial sized items that I found on the Ulta website.  I have found that going to Ulta and Sephora’s websites can give you some cheaper alternatives that are not necessarily available in-store.  All of these products were $15 or less.  Here is what I got:

  • bareMinerals Touch Up To-Go: “This is your ultimate finishing touch for a flawless, shine-free complexion wherever, whenever. Minimize the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles and keep your skin looking fresh with this perfectly portable set. Includes a Baby Buki Brush, so you can bring your beauty with you wherever you go.”  The mini Touch Up Veil is in translucent, and is half the size of the full size product.  The baby brush is a little too small to be effective, but the clear makeup bag that they come in is great and woul fit into a small purse.
  • bareMinerals Double Trouble: “A truly dynamic duo, this lipstick and lipgloss duo provides double the impact with universally flattering colors in rich, satiny formulas, for fabulously fuller looking lips.  The Collection includes Mini Marvelous Moxie Lipgloss in Smooth Talker and Mini Marvelous Moxie Lipstick in Make Your Move.”  I already know that I like the formula for bareMinerals Marvelous Moxie lipstick and lipgloss, and I love the smaller sizes which mean that I may be able to actually get through them.
  • bareMinerals Well-Rested Trio: “This 3-piece makeup collection perks up the complexion for a refreshed look. Enhance the eye area with Well-Rested Eye Brightener Broad Spectrum SPF 20 using the included silky-smooth concealer brush. Highlight the face with Well-Rested Face & Eye Brightener for absolute radiance and to look like you just got a good nights’ sleep.”  I have heard so many good things about Well Rested, that I can’t wait to try these out.

I also received a free Mini Marvelous Moxie Lipgloss in Dare Devil and 5x the points with my purchase.  All of these products (except the free gift) are still available on the Ulta website.

Tarte Birthday haul

I have been trying to resist the new Tarte Rainforest After Dark palette, but I really wanted it.  Something about it called to me.  So, when the Tarte Friends and Family sale happened, The Hubs told me to go ahead and get it as one final Birthday gift.  And, since everything was 30% off, I grabbed a couple more items with it.

  • Tarte Rainforest After Dark Limited-edition colored clay eye & cheek palette: “Inspired by the deep orchid hues of the Rainforest at dusk, this palette has everything you need to create sultry, sophisticated looks to take you from day to night. Each pigmented, flattering shade is infused with colored clay, which naturally color-corrects as it helps control oil for longer, truer wear. This next generation ingredient from the mountainous regions of Brazil brightens, evens and soothes skin while the velvety formula glides on and delivers rich color without settling into fine lines or wrinkles.”  It is flat out gorgeous.  I can do a review with swatch pictures, if you want.  The palette is available at both Sephora and Ulta.
  • Amazonian Clay waterproof cream eyeshadow in Shimmering Moss: “This long-lasting cream shadow glides on smooth and forms an impermeable layer that protects against sweat, tears, flaking, and creasing for hours of wear time. Treat delicate eyelids to skinvigorating™ Amazonian clay, carnauba wax, mineral pigments, and vitamins A and E as you impart gorgeous color that can be worn alone or layered under tarte eye shadow powders.”  Shimmering Moss is a beautiful color, and the shadow was already discounted before the F&F sale, so I ended up paying $7 for it.
  • Amazonian Butter Lipstick in Poppy: “Treat lips to a dose of color and moisture with these Amazonian butter lipsticks, infused with precious Amazonian butters to hydrate and smooth lips throughout the day. The luxurious formula glides on smoothly to deliver rich, creamy, natural looking color in a variety of shades that flatter any skin tone. Peppermint oil adds a refreshing hint of mint with each application and helps give lips a fuller, plumped up appearance. Each lipstick features unique, chic, eco-friendly packaging in specially-designed prints.”  I’ve been wanting to try the Tarte Amazonian Lipsticks for a while now, so I went ahead and snagged Poppy, a bright pink-toned red.

I also received a free deluxe sample of the Double Detox Amazonian Clay Exfoliating Facial Mask.  My Tarte order was processed and shipped very quickly.  I was able to use Ebates with it, so I got cash back from the sale event.

Birthday haul

This final picture is of stuff from both Ulta and Sephora.  You have already seen the Free Birthday gifts from each store, but for a closer look refer back to this post.  My husband, who is awesome, knows me well and gifted these items to me.

  • Fresh Sugar Lip Service Set: “Show your lips some love with these four mini pout protectors that nourish, smooth, protect, and tint in three simple steps.”  This is the only product purchased from Sephora.  Unfortunately, it doesn’t seem to be available on the website, but maybe there are still some sets available in the store.  I became completely hooked on Fresh Sugar Tinted Lip Treatments on my trip to Walt Disney World last year.  I just love the formula, but the full size is so expensive that I wouldn’t buy it for myself.  I love that I was gifted this set though, and am really excited to bust into it.
  • LORAC Pro Palette 2:  “Go PRO with LORAC PRO Palette 2! The sequel to their original, best-selling PRO Palette and created by celebrity makeup artist Carol Shaw, this PRO artistry palette is packed with 8 Shimmer and 8 Matte Eye Shadows in all the cool shades you need to create the hottest looks straight from the Red Carpet. LORAC’s velvety-smooth shadows are infused with soothing botanicals and are ultra-pigmented to perform wet or dry so you can shade, shadow, line and define your eyes, just like a PRO.”  OMG, my husband got me the LORAC Pro 2!!!  I am most excited about this than any of the other products that I got, and I got some really great stuff.  I was on the fence, hemming and hawing about whether or not I should get the Pro 2.  Obviously, I don’t need another neutral palette, but I really wanted it.  I am so happy that he got it for me.  I’ve had it for about three weeks now, and have been using it a lot.  It is so worth it.  I am definitely going to do a review on the Pro 2, because I think it is a really good palette to have.

A free deluxe sample of LORAC Cobra Mascara came with the purchase.  He stole my card and got the Ulta points for it as well. 🙂

That’s it for my haul.  I know that it was a lot, but as I said before, I’ve been really good this year.  I also know that I have some things coming up over the next year or two that will put a kibosh on sprees like this, so I got one last hurrah.  I am certainly set for a while.  If there are any products that you want a closer look at, let me know.  I can swatch and review anything that interested you.

Don’t forget to enter my latest giveaway.  You have until next Thursday 8/14, and I will pick the winner Friday 8/15.

Ulta Haul and New LE Color Whisper Shades

Ulta Haul

It’s my Birthday this month, and Ulta sent me a couple coupons to celebrate with that I couldn’t pass up.  I figured that I’d share my haul with you.  (The LE products are at the end.)  This will probably be one of my last hauls for awhile.  Once birthday month is over, I plan to go back to limiting my spending (not quite a no-buy, but extremely limited).  I have so many products to review and am so behind that I can stand to ease off a bit.  We are going to Disney World for our anniversary in October, so I want to save up so that I can really enjoy myself when I am there.  Anyway, back to my haul.

Conair Xtreme Big Curls Hot Rollers

The main thing that I wanted to get was actually a set of hot rollers.  I would love to have my hair curled every now and again, but my super straight hair does not like to cooperate.  Curling irons are no match for my stubborn tresses, so I’ve been wanting to get myself a set of hot rollers for ages now.  Hopefully, with practice, I can achieve the desired effect without the frustration and hassle of fighting with my curling iron.

Garnier Olia Oil Powered Permanent Color in 6.60 Light Intense Auburn

Speaking of hair, it’s time to get rid of the gray and I figured that I’d go back to red, or in this case auburn.  I’ve had my dark brown hair since December, so It’s time to change it up.  I usually use L’Oreal Feria, but I really wanted to try this new(ish) Garnier Olia.  It uses a 60% oil blend in the colorant.  I have very healthy hair, despite it being color-treated, so I’m hoping the Olia dye will be gentler on my hair so that it stays happy and healthy.

I needed a new spongeables.  If you haven’t tried these, you are missing out because they are the bomb.

Sally Hansen Wax Strip Kit

This is another new product.  I have very thin eyebrows, so I usually just tweeze them.  I don’t have an issue keeping up with new growth.  The problem is that I do have a lot of blond baby hairs in my eyebrow area that are hard to tweeze.  I saw a video by one of my favorite youtubers using these Sally Hansen wax strips for just that very purpose.  You just warm the strips in your hand, so there is no mess from trying to heat up a jar of wax or anything.  She made it look really easy in the video, so I’m going to give it a try.  Wish me luck.

NYX Nude Matte shadow in Underneath it All

I usually fill in my brows with eyeshadow.  I use a medium-dark taupe shade from my Coastal Scents 88-Warm palette, but I am almost out of it.  I wanted to find a replacement, so I grabbed this NYX Nude Matte shadow in Underneath it All.  This picture makes it look really warm, but in real life it is definitely more taupe.

Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stain in Honey

I’ve been wanting to get the Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stain in Honey for a while now, so I took this opportunity to pick it up.  I don’t know why I waited so long.  It’s such a “me” color, a MLBB muted rose shade.  Love it!

Maybelline LE Summer 2013 display

Finally, I came across this thoroughly picked over Maybelline LE Summer 2013 display that contained some new Color Whisper shades.  I grabbed I Crave Coral and think it’s lovely.  There are four new, limited edition Summer 2013 shades of Color Whispers, though this display only had three (Sienna Sands was there twice).

Maybelline LE Summer 2013 display

The new shades are: Nude Shimmer, Ravishing Pink, I Crave Coral and Sienna Sands.

Maybelline LE Color Whisper in I Crave Coral

I Crave Coral is a sheer peachy coral that is much easier to wear for those that can’t pull off orange lip products.  It’s not too pink, but it is forgiving.  I love the Color Whisper formula.  They are so comfortable to wear.

L-R: Maybelline I Crave Coral, Revlon Honey, NYX Underneath it All

Here is a swatch of the color cosmetics.  The lighting is not the best, but you can get the general idea.

I hope that you enjoyed my Ulta haul.  I am going to be making an Inglot purchase for my birthday, which I am extremely excited about.  I can hardly call myself a true eyeshadow junkie without any Inglot products, now can I?  Those will definitely be up for a review when I get them.  If there is anything else that you want reviewed, let me know in the comments below.

Quick Ulta Haul

Ulta haul

Hello everyone.  I haven’t done a haul post in ages, and I know that some of you find hauls interesting, so I thought that I’d do one now.  I had a coupon, so I went to Ulta this past weekend to take advantage of it.  Here is what I got.

Neutrogena Oil-Free Acne Stress Control 3-in-1 Hydrating Acne Treatment:  I use this as a BHA treatment because it contains 2% salicylic acid, and is a good BHA lotion for all skin types.  And because it is way cheaper than the Paula’s Choice version.  It has actually helped a lot with my Rosacea redness and definitely has moisturizing ingredients, leaving a decent level of hydration.  You can read more about it here in my Skincare Routine post from last November.  This is my fourth bottle, I think, and I will definitely repurchase.  I highly recommend it.

Batiste Dry Shampoo in Dark & Deep Brown:  I have really straight, fine hair with no texture or volume in it.  I’ve heard that dry shampoos are great for adding texture, but since they are white, they can leave a gray cast to dark hair.  That’s why I want to try this Batiste version.  One of my favorite Youtube beauty bloggers swears by it.

NYX “Stay Matte not Flat” Powder Foundation: I have heard so many good things about this powder as either a powder foundation or a setting powder.  I have dry skin, but I still use powder every day to set my foundation.  I just can’t force myself out of the habit.  So, I try to use powders that don’t settle into fine lines or leave my skin looking too powdery or dry.  “Stay Matte not Flat” is supposed to look really natural, like you aren’t wearing powder at all.  I will let you know how it goes.

Essence Colour and Go polish in Gorgeous Bling Bling:  I love these Essence Colour and Go polishes.  They all have a fantastic formula that goes on evenly and are really opaque.  Gorgeous Bling Bling is a flaked, rustic burnt brick-orange color.  It is too orange to be called brick red, but too red to properly be called orange, and it’s packed with gold flakes.  It’s actually a very pretty color, and perfect for Fall.  These mini bottles are perfect for me because I can never get through a full sized bottle, and they are only $1.99 each.  Love ’em!

So, that’s my haul.  Did you see anything that you found interesting?  Have you tried any of these products, and if so, what was your experience?  Do you want me to review any of these items here on BiBB?  Let me know in the comments below.

Christmas Haul!

Hey everyone, I hope that you had an amazing holiday.  I had a nice Christmas with my family, full of laughter, tears, a little bit of blood shed (pie cutters are sharper than you think), and jello shots.  I’ve been loving this week because my husband has been off work, so I’m really enjoying having him home.  Today is his last day off, so I will be returning to my regularly scheduled blogging soon.  I received some fabulous presents this year, and I thought that I would show you the beauty-related items which may be starring in future posts.

I’m super excited about some of these items that I’ve been dying to try.

  • Olay Professional Advanced Cleansing System– This is Olay’s version of the Clarisonic.  There was no way that I was going to shell out two hundred dollars for the name brand Clarisonic, but I’ve been dying to try this Olay version.
  • Salon Express nail art stamping kit– I saw this item reviewed on a couple of the beauty blogs that I read, and instantly knew that I wanted it.  I’ve been eyeing the Bundle Monster stamping plates as an alternative to Konad for a long time now, but wasn’t sure how I’d take to nail stamping.  Now I can try it out before investing in pricier items.
  • Coconut Lime Breeze Body Butter– One of the newer scents from Bath & Body Works.  Sooooo yummy!  If you remember Coconut Lime Verbena, it’s similar, but smoother and not as heavy.
  • Boots Extracts body butter in Brazil Nut– This was featured in one of my monthly favorites.  I can’t get enough of this stuff.  I also got to try the Mango version because it was gifted to my grandmother.  I’m thinking that this entire line is equally fabulous.  A funny side not: it took me five minutes to explain to my grandma that body butter is not edible, does not go on cookies or taste like frosting, and is basically a suped up lotion.  She liked it once she understood what it was, and once she tried it out on her hands instead of her baked goods.
  • Sonia Kashuk Medium Fluffy Eyeshadow Brush and Small Multi-purpose Powder Brush– I really wanted these brushes, so I’m excited to use them.
  • Stila Eye Kajal in Onyx– I’ve been wanting one of these for months.  I’ve heard such great things about Stila’s eye kajal that I can’t wait to try it out.
  • Bath & Body Works Paris Amour body spray– This smells really good.  I haven’t been too impressed with the last several “fancy pants” scents that B&BW released, but Paris Amour is delightful.
  • Luxurious Lips Kit from American Beauty– I’ve never heard of the brand, but I swatched the lipstick, lip liner and lip gloss that come in this kit and they are pretty shades that I’ll get good use out of.
  • Nutra Nail Gel Perfect UV-free Gel-Color– this is another product that I’m not too familiar with.  I’ve seen it in stores, but haven’t tried it out.  I am interested in trying it.  “Sets Rock solid in 5 minutes” is a claim that I’d love to be true, because I hate waiting for my nails to dry.  I’ve got my fingers crossed.
  • Kiss Everlasting French nails– I keep thinking that I should get some fake nails for breaks or for when I want a mani, but don’t want to deal with the hassle, but I never buy them for myself.  Luckily someone else thought of them for me.

The beauty-related gift that I am the most excited about is my Ed Hardy Deluxe Fragrance Collection.

I really love the fragrances in this set, especially Villain and Hearts and Daggers.  Each Eau de Parfum spray is .25 fl oz, so they are just the right size for a sampling of what Ed hardy has to offer.  My husband is totally awesome for braving a girly store like Ulta by himself to buy this for me.

From left to right: Ed Hardy for Women, Hearts and Daggers, Born Wild, and Villain.  The box is highly reflective, so pardon the glare.  Here’s a shot with the plastic cover removed.

As you can see, I made out like a bandit this year.  🙂  I’m so grateful that my family put so much thought into my gifts, beauty and non-beauty alike.  What about you?  Did you have any fabulous surprises under the tree?  Let me know in the comments below, and tell me if there is anything that you want a full review of.
