Ipsy November 2015

It’s Ipsy time!  I got my November Ipsy bag in the mail today.  For those who are new to the blog and don’t know, Ipsy is a beauty subscription service.  For $10 a month (plus tax in some states), you will receive a makeup bag containing 4-5 deluxe beauty samples.  You often receive full size products, and the overall value of each bag will vary from month to month, but it is always well over the $10 subscription fee.  November’s theme is “Beauty Blast: The stars are aligning. Your November Glam Bag is a universe of brilliant beauties. Twinkle, twinkle, darling. It’s time to light up the sky.”  Uhmm… okay.

Ipsy November 2015

Ipsy November 2015

The bag this month is pretty cool.  It isn’t made of the best material out there, but it also isn’t the cheapest Ipsy has sent.  The galaxy pattern is really pretty and it’s different than other bags in my collection, so I appreciate that.  It has a front zipper and is a good size for throwing in your purse.  But, enough about the bag, let’s talk about this month’s products.

Crown Brush Deluxe Pointed Crease Brush

Crown Brush Deluxe Pointed Crease Brush

Crown Brush Deluxe Pointed Crease Brush: “This handcrafted professional pointed crease brush is perfectly tapered to give you optimum coverage and color in the crease. The fluffy tip works well for blending multiple colors. Perfect for layering color or creating a smokey eye.”  The brush is full sized and worth $4.95 at crownbrush.us.

Coolway Stronghold Spray

Coolway Stronghold Spray: “Hair got you down? Pump up the volume! This innovative volumizing spray with humidity control, gives you all the volume you need and have it hold too. Now you can have flowing, beautiful hair all day long, without frizz! Tremendous volume with long-lasting hold. Create big, beautiful hair without frizz. Fights humidity and wins!”  Full size is 3.3 oz for $19.95 at coolwayhair.com.  Sample size is .5 oz, worth $3.02.

Beaute Basics Gel Eyeliner with Gel Eyeliner Brush

Beaute Basics Gel Eyeliner with Gel Eyeliner Brush

Beaute Basics Gel Eyeliner in Navy with Gel Eyeliner Brush: “This gel liner delivers bold color that lasts. Whether you want a perfectly defined line or a smokey eye, this amazing formula blends easily and won’t fade or crease. Navy blue gel liner pot with synthetic taklon liner brush. Easy glide on application and amazing color payoff.”  This product is not available at beautebasics.com, so I don’t know what value to assign to it.  It looks like a full size product at .3 oz, plus it comes with the brush so I would price it at $5-$10.  Let’s split the diff and call it $7.

DERMELECT 'ME' Peptide Infused Lacquer in Commando

DERMELECT ‘ME’ Peptide Infused Lacquer in Commando

DERMELECT ‘ME’ Peptide Infused Lacquer in Commando: “The ‘Cure’ in your ‘Mani’ is at your fingertips with the 1st peptide-infused color treatment for fragile, weak nails. Infused with a hydrolyzed keratin peptide, a pure protein extracted from New Zealand sheep’s wool, the professional lacquers deliver a fast drying, high gloss shine while providing an unequaled level of strength for stubborn nails to grow longer and more resistant to chipping, peeling and splitting. Strengthens weak, brittle nails. Provides long-lasting, high shine and bold color. 5-Free and Cruelty-free.”  This is full sized and worth $14 at dermelect.com

Smashbox Cosmetics Full Exposure Mascara

Smashbox Cosmetics Full Exposure Mascara

Smashbox Cosmetics Full Exposure Mascara: “Inspired by the on-set technique of layering a lengthening fiber mascara over a volumizing formula, this new studio-tested mascara exposes your longest, fullest lashes. Ipsy November 2015

Ipsy November 2015

The grand total of my November 2015 Ipsy bag is around $36.34, depending on how much that liner is actually worth.  If I’m being honest, I was not a fan of November’s bag.  I have gotten great brushes from Crown Brush in the past, but this one looks cheap and I think it got misshapen in transit.  You can see by my photo that it is flat on one side and I don’t think it is supposed to be.  I don’t need the hairspray and am sick of Ipsy sending me hair products when I continually tell them that I don’t want them.  The gel liner is interesting, though I didn’t like the brush that came with it.  It’s a pretty ocean blue shade that I don’t have in my collection.  I am not sure about the formula, though.  It’s very wet, so pigmentation isn’t as opaque as I would like.  I’ll have to play around with it.  I think the nail polish is a very pretty shade, and it will be interesting to see if it strengthens my nails like it claims to.  The first coat was pretty streaky, but the second coat leveled itself out.  We’ll see.  I am glad to have the Smashbox mascara.  I looked on Ipsy’s website, and there weren’t many products that I thought that I would have wanted to try instead, which is never the case.  I feel like November was just a dud all around.  Ipsy is usually a lot better than this.  I really hope that next month will be better.  It’s the holiday bag!  Fingers crossed.

You can click on the “Ipsy” tag under the category section to see my past Ipsy bags for a better idea of what you can expect.  I am usually much happier with my Ipsy bag than I was this month.  If you still haven’t signed up for Ipsy, and would like to get your own Ipsy bag, go ahead and click on this referral link or click on the link under the “Check this out” heading on the right hand side of the page.  If you are already a subscriber, what did you think of your November 2015 Ipsy bag?  Did we get the same things or did you get different items?  Were you happy, disappointed, or ambivalent?  I’d especially like to know your thoughts if you got the gel liner or the nail polish.  Let me know in the comments below.

Ipsy May 2015

I got that big pink envelope in the mail again, which can only mean one thing.  It’s Ipsy time! The theme for May was Jetsetter: “Buckle up, buttercup. We’ll bring the beauty essentials, and you bring the flair.  Celeb status or not, we’re flying first class to fabulous, and the sky’s the limit.. Jetlag is for amateurs.”  Before we get into the products this month, let’s talk about the bags.

May Ipsy Makeup Bag

May Ipsy Makeup Bag

Ipsy did something different this month in that there were three different (but similar) makeup bags that went out to subbies.  They are all from the brand Breakups to Makeup.  Here is what Ipsy says: “This mini version of their all purpose clutch is for makeup lovers and fashionistas alike. Made of a durable canvas material, this bag can store anything from your favorite lipstick to your smart phone. It can be used as a statement piece alone or as a travel bag to fit easily inside of your kit or suitcase. This is not your ordinary makeup bag!”  The full size bags are approximately 8.5X8.5″ and come with a gold metal zipper, and retail for $35.  The Ipsy versions are 6X7″ with a regular zipper, probably worth at least half of that.  My bag features a lipstick, mascara and blush brush and says “Contents: Pretty Important Stuff“.   Other versions with different beauty product inspired graphics say “VIP: Very Important Products” and “Contents: My Life“.  I think that the bags are very cute, and add to the overall value of May’s Ipsy bag.

Peter Lamas Detoxifying Citrus C Facial Cleanser

Lick. 24/7 stays put through everything (yes, EVERYTHING) you do. When you use this liner to fill in your lips completely, it primes them for lipstick or gloss, grabbing on to color to help it last. Next, finish the bad girl beautiful look with a sample of Urban Decay’s brand new Revolution High-Color Lipgloss—insanely intense color with high shine. The high-coverage, ultra-pigmented formula lays down all the color you crave in one coat. Sample size is .03 oz, worth $4.80. The Revolution High-Color Lipgloss is $22 for .17 fl oz. There is no information on the size of the lipgloss samples, so let’s not add in anything to the total worth of the bag.

Ipsy, May 2015

Ipsy, May 2015

The grand total worth of my My Ipsy bag is $51.46, plus the UD lipgloss samples.  It would be up to $68.96 if you add in the approximate worth of the makeup bag itself.  That’s pretty good for only a $10 subscription fee.  I am not sure how I feel about May’s bag.  I was so pleased with April’s bag, that Ipsy had a tough act to follow.  At first I wasn’t that impressed, but now that I am taking a closer look at the products, I think that I am pleased.  There aren’t any duds in my opinion, and I should get use out of all of the products.  At the same time, nothing really wows me like the Elizabeth Arden lipstick did last month.  All in all, though, I think that I am happy with my bag.  I don’t know when or where I will wear that bright purple lipgloss from Urban Decay, but everything else looks good.  I am actually really excited to try out the Chella eyebrow pencil.  I can always use help with my extremely sparse brows.  The face products look interesting, and that brush is super soft.  I am pleased.  If you still haven’t signed up for Ipsy, and would like to get your own Ipsy bag, go ahead and click on this referral link or click on the link under the “Check this out” heading on the right hand side of the page.  You can also click on the “Ipsy” tag under the category section to see my past Ipsy bags for a better idea of what you can expect.  What did you think of your May 2015 Ipsy bag?  Did we get the same things?  Were you happy, disappointed, or ambivalent?  Let me know in the comments below.

Let her laugh, live, love, and roam free on her own terms, and she is sure to come back to you.”  Uhmm… okay Ipsy, whatever you say.  To be honest, I didn’t really see how the products I received reflect the theme (except for the all-natural vegan one), but I do like the colorfully woven Boho bag that came this month.  It’s a keeper.  Now, onto the products.

Ipsy April 2015

Ipsy April 2015

The grand total worth of my April Ipsy bag is a whopping $75.23. Three of my products this month were full size, and only the eye shadow feels like an actual sample versus a full product. I am completely blown away by the Elizabeth Arden Beautiful Color Moisturizing Lipstick. That product alone is well worth the $10 subscription fee.  I could not believe it when I received it in my bag. I am extremely happy with the products that I received. I can not wait to try the MicaBeauty Eye Primer and the Elizabeth Arden Lipstick. The Pandora’s Makeup Box blush looks beautiful. I will probably get use out of the eyeshadow sample from theBalm. It’s a pretty color, and I know that their shadow formula is good. I also like getting the chance to try an all-natural brand like Mullein & Sparrow that I have never heard of. Ipsy totally nailed it this month. What did you think of your April 2015 Ipsy bag?  Did we get the same things?  Were you as happy with your bag as I was?  Let me know in the comments below.

The grand total worth of my March Ipsy bag is $44.15.  That is a whole lot more than my $10 subscription fee.  I am really happy with my Ipsy bag this month.  If you read my post last month, you know that I was not pleased with my February bag at all, but I am happy with pretty much every item that I got this time around.  I was already thinking about getting NYX Butter Lipstick in Pops myself, so that’s a win, and I love that the eyeshadows from Pixi coordinate so well.  I am excited to try the skyn Iceland eye gels and Acure Day Cream.  The only product that gave me pause was the Chella highlighter pencil, but I will probably use it to line the outside of my lip to make sure my lipstick doesn’t feather.  I would definitely call March’s bag a win.  If you still haven’t signed up for Ipsy, and would like to sign up for your own Ipsy bag, go ahead and click on this referral link or click on the link under the “Check this out” heading on the right hand side of the page.  You can also click on the “Ipsy” tag under the category section to see my past Ipsy bags for a better idea of what you can expect.  What did you think of your March 2015 Ipsy bag?  Did we get the same things?  Were you as happy with your bag as I was?  Let me know in the comments below.

This sample is 2.5g, and is worth approximately $5.60.

The grand total worth of my January Ipsy bag is $32.40.  I am pleased with my bag this month. I am especially excited to try both the mojito lip balm and the exfoliating honey mask.  I am even excited to try the Coastal Scents liquid liner, despite the fact that I feel I may never get the hang of liquid liner.  The eyeshadow brush and the Pacifica shadow are slightly less exciting, but I am still happy to have them.  There are no products on the January bag that I think are duds, and I will get use out of everything that I received.  All in all, I think January’s bag was a win.  Go Ipsy!

Ipsy Jan 2014

Ipsy Jan 2014

The grand total worth of my January Ipsy bag is around $39.17, depending on how much the Proactiv pads are worth, plus the value of the bag itself (which, frankly, wasn’t that great this month).  Well over my $10 subscription fee as always.  I am pleased with my bag this month.  While nothing made me squeal with delight, I am very happy with almost all of the products that I got.  I was really impressed with the staying power of the two color cosmetics, and will definitely use both the Elizabeth Mott shadow pencil and the Mica Beauty lip balm (which is more of a stain than a balm).  I am excited about the Nourish Organic face lotion and am willing to try the Proactiv pads because my skin does well with salicylic acid.  The only product I will probably not use it the Briogeo hair mask.  I don’t know, maybe I’ll give it a try anyway, but I don’t like getting hair products in my bags.  I’d rather have pretty much anything else.  Other than that, though, my bag was good and I am happy.  Can’t wait until next month.

Ipsy bag November 2013

I finally got that pink envelope in the mail, which means that it’s Ipsy time again.  I feel like Ipsy came really late this month ( I got it on Saturday night).  But I can say that this bag was definitely worth the wait.   After two somewhat lackluster bags (for me), Ipsy knocked it out of the park this month.  If you are new to this blog, Ipsy (formerly My Glam) is a subscription service where you receive a cute little makeup bag full of 4-5 deluxe samples and often full-sized products to try out.  They also provide exclusive offers from the brands that were featured for the month.  It’s a really good way to try out new products and brands that you might not otherwise be able to.  The theme for November was “Glam it up”- As invites to holiday events and parties start pouring in, we are excited to say that your November “Glam it Up” Glam Bag will be filled with some go-to products to help you get glam.  I’ll start with the full-sized products.

Ipsy November 2013

The grand total worth of my November bag was $87.20, plus the makeup bag itself.  That is well worth my $10 subscription fee.  I am so excited by this bag!  I’ve never tried a fiber mascara (they kind of scare me) so I’m glad that I can try one out without spending any money on it.  This is the third Be a Bombshell product that I’ve received and I’ve liked the previous two, so I am happy to try the lip crayon.  I really like that color for the holidays.  Neither the Nailtini polish nor the Starlooks liner are shades that I would normally go for, but I am glad to have them.  They are both beautiful shades that will nudge me out of my comfort zone.  That Pixi bronzer looks to be a great shade for a subtle glow in the winter months.  I’ve been hearing a lot about GlamGlow, so I’m excited to try the sample.  I like trying new masks and treatments, especially when I don’t have to shell out the always high retail price.  I love my November bag, and can’t wait to see what Ipsy has for December.

If you want to sign up for Ipsy yourself, something that I highly recommend, please use this referral link.  I’ve been signed up for over a year now, and am so glad that I did.  Most of the bags have been awesome, and there are always great deals on the featured brands (like 25-40% off or free items with purchase) for the month.  For only $10, Ipsy is a great value in my opinion.
