NYX Liquid Suede Cream Lipstick

NYX Liquid Suede Cream Lipstick

Have you heard about the new NYX Liquid Suede Cream Lipsticks yet? Don’t worry if you haven’t.  NYX hasn’t released them yet, but they are pimpin’ the hell out of them.  (Update: They released today 7/22 and are $7 each on NYX’s website.)  Those of you who are still loving the matte lip trend that is all over the place right now, will definitely want to check these out.  Here is the blurb from NYX: “Doll up your lips in plush color! This velvety soft and waterproof lippie glides on, then sets into a striking matte finish.”  Twelve new shades run the gamut from sweet and natural to bold and vampy, and even a steely gray with blue undertones.

I am not a huge fan of matte lips, but I have to admit that some of these shades have really caught my eye.  Also, by the swatches online, it looks like some of these sades may be more demi-matte than true matte which are more forgiving.  I am definitely looking at Soft-Spoken and Vintage.  A part of me even wants to give Stone Fox a try, though I doubt that I’d be able to pull it off.  What do you think?  Are you excited about the new NYX Liquid Suede Cream Lipsticks?  Will you be looking to get some when they come out?

The NYX Liquid Suede Cream Lipstick should be out soon.  They were originally scheduled for a June release date, but it got pushed back.  They will be available this summer for sure.  Check out nyxcosmetics.com for more details.

New NYX Go-To Palettes for Summer 2015

NYX Go-To Palettes

NYX Go-To Palettes

Right on the heels of their new Avant Pop Eyeshadow Palettes, NYX has two new palettes that are releasing for Summer 2015.  Get ready to travel with the new NYX Go-To Palettes.  Hey jet-setter, “Travel light with palettes customized for creating both subtle and striking looks” all on the go.  With six eyeshadows and three face products (highlight, blush, and bronzer), these Go-To palettes are designed to be all you need for lovely looks.  There are two versions of the NYX Go-To Palettes available, Wanderlust and BonVoyage.  Let’s take a closer look.

NYX Go-To Palettes

NYX Go-To Palettes

Here is what NYX has to say about the new Go-To Palettes: “Grab the ultimate Go-To Palette and jet! Each set includes six vibrant shadows in addition an illuminator, blusher and bronzer. Travel light and effortlessly chic with collections customized for achieving subtle or striking looks tucked into your makeup bag.”  The palettes look great, except for one tiny thing.  For palettes that are designed for travel, there really should have been a mirror included in the packaging.  I like that you can actually see the shades at a glance, but I would have rather had a mirror in the lid for true jet-setting practicality.  Otherwise, I think the size of the palettes are good for travel, and from the promo shots it looks like you could get a complete look without having to go outside the palette.  Now let’s talk about each palette individually.

NYX Go-To Palette in Wanderlust

NYX Go-To Palette in Wanderlust

The first of the two Go-To palettes is Wanderlust, which is a neutral palette.  The promo material makes it look like a pretty warm-toned palette, so keep that in mind.  The six shadows in the Wanderlust palette are: Cream (pearl finish), Pink Rust (shimmer finish), Warm Bronze (light pearl finish), Champagne (pearl finish), Warm Medium Beige (light glitter finish), and Bronze Plum (light pearl finish).  No matte shadows in this palette.  The face products include a highlight in Champagne, with a luminous finish.  For blush we have Pink Coral with a golden shimmer.  The only matte product in the Wanderlust palette is the bronzer, Warm Taupe.  I think that the Wanderlust palette is lovely, and perfect for someone who doesn’t already own a lot of makeup.  If you already have a large collection of neutrals, however, you may feel like you don’t need yet another neutral palette.  You probably already have all of these shades in your collection.
NYX Go-To Palette in Bon Voyage

NYX Go-To Palette in Bon Voyage

The second Go-To palette, Bon Voyage, holds all of the color.  The eyeshadow shades include: Deep Purple (satin finish), Emerald Green (shimmer finish), Tan (satin finish), Light Pink (pearl finish), Purple Taupe (shimmer finish), and Graphite (multi-color glitter finish).  Again, no mattes, though the satin finishes make the palette a little less shimmery than Wanderlust.  For face, we have the same luminous finish Champagne highlight that was in the other palette. The blush in the Bon Voyage palette is Coral and it has a satin finish.  Again we have a matte bronzer, this time it is in Warm Brown.  Bon Voyage looks like it has both warm and cool tones, so it may actually be more versatile than Wanderlust.  The rich jewel tones make the Bon Voyage palette a lovely choice, especially for nights on the town while at home or on vacation.

The new NYX Go-To Palettes are not yet available at ulta.com, but there are some reports that they have been spotted in-store, so check with you local Ulta location before you go.  They are available at nyxcosmetics.com and retail for $17.  That is a bit steep, but when they eventually do land at Ulta, at least you can take advantage of the $3.50 off of $10 coupon that is always available.  NYX is also often on sale BOGO 50% off, so that may help mitigate the cost.  The Go-To palettes look great, and I can’t wait to see them in real life.  What do you think of the new NYX Go-To Palettes?  Will you be hauling?  Let me know in the comments below.

NYX Avant Pop! Shadow Palettes

NYX Avant Pop! Shadow Palettes

Check out these brand new NYX Avant Pop Eyeshadow Palettes for Summer 2015.  There are three new 10-color eyeshadow palettes from NYX with beautiful shades for a lot of variety.  According to NYX: “Express yourself with splashes of striking color from our Avant Pop! Shadow Palettes. All three collections have been carefully curated with 10 eyeshadows in various finishes. Each palette lets you create a softer look or take it to the next level. Everything you need to create your own pop art masterpiece is at your fingertips!”  The following images are from nyxcosmetics.com.

NYX Avant Pop Palette in Nouveau Chic

NYX Avant Pop Palette in Nouveau Chic: Pale pink with shimmer, matte terracotta, plum with gold shimmer, opalescent lavender, gunmetal grey with shimmer, matte light beige, rosegold, matte dark brown, deep taupe, black with gold shimmer

So, what do you think of the NYX Avant Pop Eyeshadow Palettes?  I love that first palette with all of the bright, fun colors.  I think that Nouveau Chic will be a great universal palette that anyone can wear.  The palettes are $17 at nyxcosmetics.com.  That’s a bit steep for NYX, but maybe the shadow wells are larger than normal to make up for it.  Hopefully there will be some good sales coming up to bring that price down a little.  If they come to Ulta you can always use the standard $3.50 of of $10 coupon that Ulta offers.  If I can score the palettes for less than $17, I would be interested in picking up Art Throb.  How about you?  Will you be purchasing any of the new NYX Avant Pop Eyeshadow Palettes?  Let me know in the comments below.

New from NYX Spring 2015

Standard

nyx<3

NYX has some fun and interesting additions to their line up for Spring 2015, and I wanted to show you some of their new offerings.  There are bound to be more new products coming down the line, but here are a few of the earliest arrivals.  Be sure to keep an eye out at Ulta, Target, and nyxcosmetics.com for new displays and product announcements.

NYX 3C Conceal Correct Contour Palette

NYX 3C Conceal Correct Contour Palette

Contouring is going to be a huge trend for 2015, so NYX is right on target with the new 3C Conceal Correct Contour Palettes.  The palettes aren’t on NYX’s website yet, but they are at ulta.com.  According to Ulta: “Wake up your face with the ultimate concealer palette in six color correcting shades. NYX Cosmetics 3C Conceal Correct Contour Palette is a lightweight, non-creasing formula which glides on for an ultra-smooth finish and leaves skin feeling soft and supple.”  The palettes come in Light, Medium, and Deep.  There seems to be a great mix of shades for concealing and cream contour.  The palettes are $11.99 at Ulta.

NYX Color Correcting Powder

NYX Color Correcting Powder

Nest up are the new NYX Color Correcting Powders.  They haven’t hit Ulta yet, but are available through nyxcosmetics.com, and retail for $10.  Here is the description that NYX provides: “Even out your complexion using our ultra-fine, translucent loose Color Correcting Powder. This lightweight, easy to use powder can be applied before or after your foundation. The paraben and talc-free formula helps you achieve a natural matte finish.”  The shades come in Green, Lavender, and Banana.  I am curious about how well the Color Correcting Powders will cover.  It’s tricky with shades like green and lavender because you don’t want an unnatural cast to the skin.  I expect the Banana shade to sell pretty well.

NYX Big & Loud Lash Primer

NYX Big & Loud Lash Primer

The new NYX Big & Loud Lash Primer is available at both NYX and Ulta’s websites for $7.  The description says:  “Give your lashes a boost with our Big & Loud Lash Primer. It works hand in hand with your favorite NYX mascara to enhance the length and volume of lashes.”  I have not used many lash primers, but it looks like this one may have more of a clear formula than the typical white cast that lash primers usually give.  It also appears that the wand has very narrow bristles.  I am curious to know if any of you try it and what you think.

NYX Color Mascara

NYX Color Mascara

The final product I have for you today is not completely new, but NYX has added five new shades to their Color Mascara lineup.  “Think beyond the ordinary with these fun and vibrant new mascara options from NYX. Packed full of pigments and delivering on the promise of intense color payoff, everyone will notice your fabulous eye lash color. Go for it, we dare you to try all eight shades!”  The five new shades are all bright and fun colors for Spring.  I am not sure if brightly colored lashes fit my style exactly, but I can appreciate the new additions.  The Color Mascara is available for $7 at NYX and Ulta.

I would love to know if you have tried any of these new products from NYX and what you thought.  Leave me a comment and tell me what new products you are looking forward to for Spring.  I am actually very excited to see what will be coming out with the new 2015 color of the year, Marsala.  The Sephora+Pantone Marsala collection looks great, and I am anxious for more brands to introduce products in that color range.  I find Marsala much more flattering than Radiant Orchid was.  What do you think?  Let me know in the comments below.

NYX Honey Dew Me Up Primer Review

NYX Honey Dew Me Up Primer

NYX Honey Dew Me Up Primer

One of the more interesting products that NYX has released in the last year is the Honey Dew Me Up Primer.  Honey Dew Me Up came out at the same time as NYX’s two Skin Elixirs, about six months or so ago.  This is a gel primer infused with honey, gold flecks, and collagen.  (Goldschläger anyone?)  NYX claims that Honey is a natural antiseptic, while the gold flecks increase skin radiance, and collagen strengthens skin.  Here is what NYX has to say: “Inspired by honey’s golden glow, we developed a primer that neutralizes the appearance of discoloration and redness. Our innovative light reflective gold flecks create a luminous look that will help keep your skin looking radiant all day.”  Intrigued?  I was too.

NYX Honey Dew Me Up Primer

NYX Honey Dew Me Up Primer

Before I talk about the formula, I want to voice one very large complaint.  The packaging for Honey Dew Me Up is so unbelievably terrible.  The glass jar contains a little more than three quarters of an ounce and has a screw off top with an attached applicator.  The applicator is the real issue.  Honey Dew Me Up has a hard plastic spatula for an applicator that is a horrible choice for the slightly runny formula.  Not only is this one of the most unsanitary methods of application, but it’s just a hug mess.  Though the spatula is a decent size, you have no choice but to smear it on your face or on your fingers to get the primer on, then place it back into the jar.  It’s a breeding ground for bacteria.  I don’t know what NYX was thinking, but this is such a poorly designed product.  Now, let’s talk about the formula.

NYX Honey Dew Me Up Primer

NYX Honey Dew Me Up Primer

NYX Honey Dew Me Up Primer has a slightly runny formula, like watered down honey.  It applies a little goopy, but quickly melts into the skin for a surprisingly lightweight feel.  It leaves my skin feeling kind of sticky until it dries down completely, and I was not the biggest fan of the sensation.  It felt much more like a serum than a primer, to tell the truth.  It sets to a dewy finish that does add some radiance to my skin, but I did not feel as though it helped my foundation apply any smoother or easier.  I saw in the reviews online that many people prefer to use Honey Dew Me Up as a serum instead of a foundation primer for that reason.  Honey Dew Me Up did add some moisture to my skin, probably due to the collagen.  However, I did not notice any improvement with my redness as was promised, nor was there any lasting improvement to my skin overall.  One important thing to note about Honey Dew Me Up is the the second ingredient listed is alcohol, a known skin irritant.  I can not recommend the product as a serum because of the high alcohol content.  The gold flakes don’t help either, though they are largely easy to ignore.  They are sparse, and easy to brush off once the primer dries down.  They look cool in the bottle, but are wholly unnecessary.

All in all, NYX Honey Dew Me Up Primer was a bust for me.  I did not see any improvement in the way my foundation applied or in its lasting power when using the primer, and the ingredients are too problematic to consider it for skincare.  The final nail in the coffin is that NYX charges $17 for Honey Dew Me Up.  NYX’s prices have been rising over the last few years (as has every drugstore brand), but they are still considered very affordable.  For almost $20 I expect a lot more than Honey Dew Me Up delivers.  I got my jar of NYX Honey Dew Me Up Primer for half off, and even at that price it is not worth it.  Save your money and look elsewhere.  NYX Honey Dew Me Up Primer is a major fail in my book.

NYX Q10 Renew Skin Elixir Review

Standard
NYX Q10 Renew Skin Elixir

NYX Q10 Renew Skin Elixir

For my first post back after my move, I want to review the Q10 Renew Skin Elixir from NYX.  I mentioned this one way back in my October favorites post, but haven’t gotten a chance to review it with all of the chaos of the last couple months.  Thank you, again, for your patience while I was relocating.  I am very happy to be back to posting.  The NYX Q10 Renew Skin Elixir is a little different as far as primers go.  It is sort of a hybrid product, falling somewhere between primer and a skin care serum.  If you have the right skin type, this can be a wonderful product, but it is not for everyone.  Read on to see what I mean.

NYX Q10 Renew Skin Elixir Swatch

NYX Q10 Renew Skin Elixir has a creamy, lightweight formula with a fresh, unassuming scent.  It is not a silicone primer, so it will not fill in lines or pores.  It also does not have that soft focus effect that blurs your edges like the Revlon Photoready primers.  What the NYX Q10 Renew Skin Elixir does do, is infuse your skin with CoEnzyme Q10 that brightens and softens your skin for a flawless foundation application.  NYX Q10 Renew Skin Elixir is especially lovely for those with slightly dry or mature skin.  The added moisture boost will leave your skin soft and supple, but not so much so that it mucks up your foundation.  CoQ10 boosts collagen and elastin production, which wains once you leave your twenties behind.  NYX Q10 Renew Skin Elixir isn’t what I would recommend for a serum in your regular skin care regimen, but it is an excellent prep for your makeup routine.  Mature skin can tend to look dry or dull, but the Renew Skin Elixir will help to temporarily gain a smooth, bright, and youthful appearance.  Foundation blends evenly over the primer and looks beautiful.  Though a perfectly serviceable option for those with extremely dry skin or those with very youthful skin, they probably won’t love NYX Q10 Renew Skin Elixir as much as I do.  The former will not get enough of a moisture boost from the mild formula, and the latter will probably not see enough of a difference from their already smooth supple skin.  I definitely think that NYX Q10 Renew Skin Elixir is targeted at those with normal to slightly dry skin and mature skin.  The Elixir does a great job at smoothing out flakes and rough patches so foundation doesn’t get stuck on them.  The formula absorbs quickly and does not leave skin tacky or sticky.  The formula feels lovely and my foundation lasts all day.  I would definitely caution those with oily skin because, though not greasy, NYX Q10 Renew Skin Elixir will do nothing to control oil production, mattify, or keep oil from breaking down your foundation.  This isn’t the product for you.  And again, those with large pores (my sistas) will need to look elsewhere for something to fill them in.

All in all, though certainly not a miracle product, if you fit the target audience that the NYX Q10 Renew Skin Elixir was designed for, it is great.  I don’t use it everyday, but I do like it very much and use it often.  The only real issue that I have is that the tube is so small.  You only get .68 fl oz for around $12.  NYX is often BOGO 50% off at Ulta, and there are several sales happening this time of year, so you can find it cheaper than that.  Still, it’s not exactly a great bargain.  I do think the NYX Q10 Renew Skin Elixir is worth checking out, but try to wait for a sale to do so.  I will never let go of silicone primers as favorites for my skin needs, but the NYX Q10 Renew Skin Elixir formula is a win in my book.

NYX Holiday Gift Sets 2014

Standard

Change of plans for today.  I was going to review the Sephora exclusive Tarte Sweet Dreams Holiday 2014 Pin Up Girl Amazonian Clay 12-Hour Blush Palette for you.  I figured that, since the Sephora VIB sale started yesterday, you might want some gift ideas that you could pick up from Sephora.  Unfortunately, the Blush Palette is already sold out online (though you may be able to still pick it up in store if you hurry).  So instead, I am going to show you some Holiday sets from NYX that you can find at Ulta and ulta.com.  There is a lot here for the lips, but there are a couple eye sets as well.  I am pretty sure that at least some of these sets will also be popping up in your local Target and CVS stores, so keep an eye out for them.

I think that is everything for now.  Like I said, it is a lot for the lips.  I would have loved to see some items for the face, or a trio of the new(ish) All Over Balms, but these are still nice sets to have.  They would make great stocking stuffers, or part of a larger beauty gift.  What do you think of NYX’s Holiday 2014 collection?  Be sure to go to Ulta, or ulta.com for more information, and if you do order online, definitely use Ebates for cash back.  It is free to sign up, and you basically get paid to shop as you normally would.  I have been using Ebates for about a year and a half now, and it is totally legit. For more information about Ebates, read this post, and you can find my referral link on the right hand side of this page under the “Check this Out” heading.

I am thinking of possibly purchasing the NYX Butter Lipgloss Pure Decadence Set for myself, because I love way the shades look.  I am supposed to be trying to abstain from buying anything because our move is three weeks away. (!!!!)  But I have to admit that this is the hardest time of year to keep from buying.  We’ve been seeing new Holiday sets released since early September, and there are more popping up every week.  It’s probably a good thing that I am not a Sephora VIB, or the 20% off sale would be impossible to resist.  Of course, Sephora often extends the sale to we lowly little Beauty Insiders eventually, so who knows.  Have you seen any Holiday sets that have piqued your interest?  Let me know in the comments below.
