Tarte Light Of The Party Collector’s Makeup Case

Today I have something very exciting to show you, the Tarte Light Of The Party Collector’s Makeup Case.  I am a big fan of Tarte’s Holiday palettes, and this year the Sephora exclusive Tarte Light Of The Party Collector’s Makeup Case caught my attention.  I haven’t had the palette for very long and have only used it a couple times, so this isn’t really a proper review.  But I know that the Sephora VIB sale is right around the corner, so I wanted to at least show it to you and swatch it for you so that you could get a sense of whether or not you want to add it to your Sephora Loves list to pounce on when the sale opens up.  So let’s take a look.

Tarte Light Of The Party Collector's Makeup Case

Tarte Light Of The Party Collector’s Makeup Case

Here is what Sephora has to say about the Tarte Light Of The Party Collector’s Makeup Case: “Be the center of the room with this festive, limited-edition collection, feautring tarte’s beauty favorites, designed to create smoldering makeup looks for any celebration. Create an eye-catching statement wherever you go with the travel-size takeaway palette, featuring shadow, cheek and contouring shades. The trendy collector’s case features a full-size, built-in eye shadow palette with 30 shades, including 24 brilliant, never before seen shades in mixed mattes and shimmers. With a travel-friendly eye shadow brush and deluxe-size mascara, this set is perfect for achieving seamless, on-the-go touch-ups for alluring, party-perfect looks.”  I love that there is a travel face and eye palette withing this Holiday palette.  It’s like getting a two for one deal, and I think it really raises the value of the overall palette.  The travel brush is not my favorite thing, but it will do in a pinch and is a good size for traveling.  Lights, Camera, Lashes 4-in-1 Mascara is a long-time favorite and it is always welcome as far as I am concerned.

Tarte Light Of The Party Collector's Makeup Case

Tarte Light Of The Party Collector’s Makeup Case

When you remove the gold travel palette you can see that the Tarte Light Of The Party Collector’s Makeup Case has a large mirror.  The lid is too heavy to stand up on its own, but if you can lean it against something the mirror is very useful for application.  The palette itself is heavy cardboard with a rose gold finish, so I think it is quite durable.  It does not lift out of the case.  The case zips up for extra security.  The lid is covered in sequins that remind me of an Aztec or Santa Fe style design.  The photograph doesn’t do it justice.  In real life the mixed metals look is really beautiful.

Tarte Light Of The Party Collector's Makeup Case Travel Palette

Tarte Light Of The Party Collector’s Makeup Case Travel Palette

The travel palette comes with a bronzer in Social Butterfly, a blush in Amazed, and a Highlight in Pink Champagne.  It also comes with six eyeshadows.  You can absolutely do a full face with this travel palette.  The bronzer is a nice color for those with light skin, though it may pull a little to warm with certain undertones.  The blush is an everyday warm pink that will flatter almost anyone.  Pink Champagne is a little more highlight that I usually go for, so I have to use a very light hand when I use it.  To be fair, though, I am very conservative with my highlight.  Most people will probably love it.

The six eyeshadows in the travel palette have a good range of neutral tones.  You will find a good mix of matte and shimmer in taupe, brown, and plum shades.  Popcorn Strand is a great matte browbone shade, while Yule be Surprised and Mulberry and Bright make great liners.  The two metallic shimmer shades are absolutely gorgeous.  I am very pleased with the travel palette, and like I said before, I think it adds a lot of value to the case.

Tarte Light Of The Party Collector's Makeup Case

Tarte Light Of The Party Collector’s Makeup Case

The main palette of the Tarte Light Of The Party Collector’s Makeup Case contains 24 shades.  Tarte is not Urban Decay or Kat Von D, so all the shades in this palette are going to be easy, wearable colors that a person can wear to the office as well as a night out.  I love looking at those rainbow palettes and my inner unicorn wants to snatch them up, but as I get older I find that I get a lot more use out of brands like Tarte and Lorac that give me these beautiful user friendly shades.  That being said, this isn’t any old neutrals palette.  The shadows are gorgeous, the shade names are adorable, and I get a lot of inspiration for different looks from this palette.  I think that it is a smart palette.  Tarte chose well when it came to which shades to make shimmer and which ones to make matte.  It’s a great mix of mid tones and dark tones, plenty of highlights, and the shades are pretty evenly spit between warm and cool undertones.  I swatched the shadows in columns moving from left to right.

There are some truly lovely shades in this palette, and I can not recommend it enough.  The Tarte Light Of The Party Collector’s Makeup Case is a Holiday palette that anyone could get good use of.  The shades are universally flattering across all ages and skin tones.  This would make an amazing gift for both an establishes makeup lover or a beauty beginner.  The Tarte Light Of The Party Collector’s Makeup Case is $59 for the 30 shadows, 3 face products, brush and mascara, and that lovely sequined case.  It may not be the most inexpensive Holiday palette out there, but I think that it is a pretty good deal for what you actually get.  I like Tarte’s shadow formula, and you can’t beat their Amazonian Clay formula for their face products.  Again it is a Sephora exclusive.  Like all Holiday palettes, it is Limited Edition.  If you can snag it during the VIB sale, then I definitely would.  Just don’t wait too long because you don’t want it to sell out before you can get your hands on it.

I just wanted to quickly stop in to let you know that Tarte will be featured on Hautelook tomorrow.  I don’t know about you, but I am a big Tarte fan.  I mentioned their Amazonian Clay Full Coverage Airbrush Foundation in my June Favorites, and definitely recommend it if it is available.  The Amazonian Clay Blushes are fabulous, and I also really like their Maracuja oil.  I have several eye palettes and really enjoy them.  The event opens up tomorrow (8/19) at 8:00 am PST.  I’m not sure what will be available because they haven’t released a preview yet, but the products are usually at a pretty good discount.  If you haven’t signed up with Hautelook yet, it is free to do so.  They regularly offer designer brands for up to 75% off, and it’s not just beauty.  I know that some of you really appreciate these sale alerts, so be sure to check out hautelook.com to see what discounts they will be running.  Oh, and in case you were wondering (because I know that it can be a sore spot for some) I don’t get any kick backs or referral credit for these sale alerts.  I am just trying to spread the good news and let you know when there is an opportunity to save.  Happy shopping.  🙂

Tarte Rainforest After Dark Palette Review and Swatches

Tarte Rainforest After Dark Palette

Tarte Rainforest After Dark Palette

I have the new limited edition Tarte Rainforest After Dark Palette to swatch and review for you today.  This palette really called to me from the first moment I started seeing it in previews, but I debated with myself about getting it.  It is gorgeous, but I knew that I was getting the Lorac 2 for my birthday, so I figured that I should pass.  But, ultimately the beauty of the palette as well as the overall value (and the F&F sale) won me over.  Tarte is one of my favorite brands, and I just couldn’t resist.

Tarte Rainforest After Dark Palette

Tarte Rainforest After Dark Palette

Before I jump into the palette itself, let’s talk about the packaging.  I am reminded of Cleopatra with the bright gold embossed snake on the rich (faux) wood panel.  That is an actual purple jewel on the snakes head that sticks out.  It is truly captivating, and definitely a palette that you want to display, not just throw in a drawer.  Tarte has been moving to these round compacts lately.  Previous Tarte Coral Crush and Aqualillies palettes were both this round compact style.  They contain a full-size Amazonian Clay blush in the center, with two face products and six eyeshadows surrounding it.  There is also a full size, good quality mirror in the palette.

Tarte Rainforest After Dark Palette

Tarte Rainforest After Dark Palette

Here is what Tarte has to say about the palette: “A limited-edition, colored clay eye and cheek palette for day to night looks. Inspired by the rain forest’s deep orchid hues at dusk, Tarte’s limited-edition eye and cheek palette has everything you need to create sultry and sophisticated day to night looks. Infused with colored clay, which naturally color-corrects as it supports oil control, this makeup provides longer wear and truer color payoff. This modern ingredient from the mountainous regions of Brazil brightens, evens, and soothes skin, while the velvety formula glides on and delivers rich color—without settling into fine lines and wrinkles.”

Before I start talking about the individual shades, I want touch on the overall value of the palette.  Tarte Rainforest After Dark Palette retails for $38, full price.  For $38, you get 0.14 ounces of highlighter, 0.14 ounces of bronzer, 0.21 ounces of blush, and a total of 0.21 ounces of eye shadow.  To put this price in perspective, a stand-alone Amazonian Clay 12-Hour Blush contains 0.2 ounces and costs $26.  Though the price may seem high initially, you are definitely getting a deal with the Rainforest After Dark Palette.  And if you can snag it on sale like I did, then it’s even better.  Check out the bottom of this post for more on that.  😉

Tarte Rainforest After Dark Palette

Tarte Rainforest After Dark Palette

Tarte is a well loved brand for a reason, their formulations are really great.  I have more Amazonian Clay blushes than I am willing yo admit, and can attest to the long-lasting, and highly pigmented formula.  I also have a couple Tarte Holiday palettes and have never been disappointed by the shadow formulas.  The Rainforest After Dark Palette lives up to my expectations of Tarte’s quality products.  All of the products in this palette have excellent staying power, with no issues of fading, flaking, or creasing.  Unleashed is a little stiffer in the pan than typical Amazonian Clay blushes, but it is possible that it will get silkier once I break through the top layer.  Don’t get me wrong, it is still a good blush, but not quite as soft as I am used to with Tarte.  Both the highlight and bronzer are silky smooth and very pigmented.  As far as the shadows go, there is one shade that is a little different than the others.  Bare to Explore, like the Unleashed blush, is a little stiff in the pan.  I still get plenty of color pay-off, but it isn’t quite as silky smooth as the other five shades.  The remaining shadows are fantastic, and I am especially impressed with Up to no Gold and Plum Away with Me.  They are so intense!

The only real complaint I have about this palette is that the face products are all light shades.  While that’s great for those with fair or light skin, darker complexions will struggle.  The bronzer is way too light for anyone with anything darker than medium skin, and the blush will completely disappear on dark skin as well.  Darker complected ladies can still get use out of the Champagne highlight and, of course, the shadows, but if the blush and bronzer are a big selling point for you, you may want to pass.  Now, let’s take a look at the swatches.  I’ll start with the face products.

Tarte Rainforest After Dark Palette Cheek products

Champagne, Park Ave Princess, and Unleashed

  • Champagne:  A white-gold highlight that gives off a soft, subtle shimmer that can be built up for those who prefer a more dramatic shine.
  • Park Ave Princess: The bronzer is a warm-toned medium tan shade that can be applied lightly for an all-over warmth, or built up for contouring. It has a satin finish.  This shade is probably too light for contouring if you have skin darker than NC/NW 25.
  • Unleashed: A warm rose matte shade.  Again, the blush may be too light for those with medium-tan complexions or darker.
Bare to Explore, Make a Mauve, and Plum Away With Me

Bare to Explore, Make a Mauve, and Plum Away With Me

  • Bare to Explore: A pink-toned cool beige with a matte finish.
  • Make a Mauve: A taupey mauve with plum and brown undertones.  This has a a subtle shimmer finish.
  • Plum Away with Me: A warm-toned dark plum shade with a shimmer finish.  Very intense pigmentation.
Up to No Gold, Tan-gled Up in You, Don’t Turn A-Brown

Up to No Gold, Tan-gled Up in You, and Don’t Turn A-Brown

  • Up to no Gold: A warm, molten gold shade.  This has a very intense metallic finish, and amazing pigmentation.
  • Tan-gled Up in You: A medium, matte camel-brown shade.  It has cooler tones that the Park Ave Princess bronzer.
  • Don’t Turn A-Brown: This is a dark-cocoa matte brown.  This makes an excellent shadow liner.

I am very happy that I didn’t talk myself out of purchasing the Tarte Rainforest After Dark Palette.  I can see myself getting a ton of use out of it this fall and winter.  Plums and purples have been showing up everywhere in new collections and neutrals are always in season, so this palette is right on trend.  The Tarte Rainforest After Dark Palette is available at Uta, Sephora, and on Tarte’s website.  Keep in mind that it is a Limited Edition palette, so you can’t wait too long if you plan on purchasing.  I highly recommend it.

Tarte is currently offering a Labor Day sale on tarte.com.  You can receive $10 off of $50, $20 off of $75, and $30 off of $100 with code LDAY.  All orders over $40 get free shipping within the US.  The Labor Day sale starts today, and goes through Monday, 9/1.  Don’t forget that you can use Ebates when you shop Tarte’s website and get cash back on your purchase.  If you haven’t signed up for Ebates, check out this post that explains all about it, and I’d love it if you would use my referral link (on the sidebar towards the top of the page under “Check This Out”) if you choose to sign up.

Tarte Gorgeous Getaways Palette

Tarte Gorgeous Getaways Palette is the Tarte Holiday palette that is exclusive to Ulta this year.  Last year I was more impressed with the Sephora exclusive, but for 2013 this Ulta exclusive won me over.  The Tarte Gorgeous Getaways Palette is jam-packed with product and has a cool portable option.  The very best part of the palette, though, is that there are four different shades of the Amazonian 12-Hour Clay Blushes.  Tarte blushes are some of the best on the market, in my opinion, so I am so excited that they are included.  All in all, this palette is a great value (more on that later) and a really good option for a Holiday gift to a loved one or even yourself.  Take a closer look.  (All of my photos can be enlarged by clicking on them.)

tartegetaway2

Tarte Gorgeous Getaways Palette

The palette comes in a purple and gold “jewelry box” style package with a flip up top and one drawer.  Here is what Ulta has to say: “Give the gift of color and convenience this season with Tarte’s limited-edition Gorgeous Getaways portable palettes & collector’s compact set. Overflowing with 16 expertly-coordinated eye shadows, 4 brand new blushes and 3 maracuja lipglosses, this one-of-kind modular box set also includes a chic portable palette compact for endless looks on the go!

The limited-edition set features:

  • 16 full size Amazonian Clay Eye Shadows inspired by magical destinations around the world
  • 4 full size Amazonian 12-Hour Clay Blushes in new limited-edition shades
  • 3 full size Maracuja Lipglosses in new limited-edition shades
  • Portable collector’s compact to take the interchangeable palettes on-the-go

To take your palettes with you in the collector’s compact, simply lift the ribbon, remove the palette, and place it inside the compact.”

tartegetaway4

Tarte Gorgeous Getaways Palette

I think that the pop-out quads set this palette apart and that bow compact is adorable.  The magnet is really strong, both in the compact and the palette itself, so there is no worry about the quads falling out.  I got the palette right before I left for my vacation, so I took a quad with me in the travel compact and had no issues with it at all.  It was perfectly safe in my luggage.  This is great for people who need to touch up their makeup throughout the day and this is perfect for a day to night look.  Just deepen your crease shade, refresh your blush, and pull out a bold lip color and you can easily go from office to cocktails with the travel compact.  The only downside is that the shadows and blushes are pre-set in these quads, so you can’t mix and match.  It would have been cool to be able to sub out the blushes.  Oh well, we can’t have everything, can we?

tartegetaway5

Tarte Gorgeous Getaways Palette

What’s also neat is that the shade names are printed on the back of each quad, and not just on the plastic protective sleeve.  That way, if you want to toss the insert, you can do so without losing the shade names.  I don’t think all of the shadows are limited edition, so if you really like a shade, I think you can see if it’s available from Tarte.

Tarte is one of my favorite brands.  I really like the formula of their shadows and especially the blushes.  Tarte usually offers shades that are more neutral and very wearable for a wide customer base.  I feel like it is a brand that I can grow with because, unlike brands like Urban Decay that cater to a younger crowd,  I can find appropriate products for any age within the line.  That is certainly the case with this palette.  I think any woman would love it, whether she’s in her 20’s or her 60’s.  All of the eyeshadow shades are easily worn, there are a good mix of mattes and shimmers, and none of the blushes are too dark or crazy.  The formula is great, smooth and easily blended.  There isn’t a bad shade in the lot.

tartegetaway9

Tarte Gorgeous Getaways Palette Quad 1

The first quad in the palette is my favorite.  Please ignore that chunk missing from the second pan.  I dropped it while I was taking pictures and in my attempt to catch the quad, my thumbnail went right into the shadow.  *sigh*  Anyway, onto the shades.  Taj Mahal is a shimmery champagne shade.  Grand Canyon is a warm tan shade.  Big Ben is a matte khaki with a lot of gray tones.  Central Park is a beautiful matte forest green.  The swatch below (all of them, actually) is one swipe of all the shadows with no primer or base.

tartegetawayD

Tarte Gorgeous Getaways Palette Quad 1

Savvy, the blush in quad 1, is the most neutral of the palette.  It’s a matte brown-toned mauve that warms up the face in a natural way.  I love it.  This is a great blush to use on days when you want to skip bronzer.

tartegetaway8

Tarte Gorgeous Getaways Palette Quad 2

Quad 2 brings on the shimmer for a warm look that will look amazing in the spring and summer.  Santorini Bikini is a light shimmery peach.  Great Sphynx is a mid-tone shimmery brown.  Pacific Sunset is a blazing metallic copper bronze.  Belgian Chocolate is a milk chocolate shade with purple undertones.  It’s the least shimmery of the quad and has more of a satin finish.

tartegetawayA

Tarte Gorgeous Getaways Palette Quad 2

Spontaneous is the only shimmery blush in the palette.  It’s a light shimmering pink with the slightest touch of peach.  There is no need to wear a highlight shade with this blush, and it would look gorgeous on younger skin.

tartegetaway7b

Tarte Gorgeous Getaways Palette Quad 3

Quad 3 is my least favorite of the four, though I love that first shade.  You can’t really see Serengeti Sand in the swatch below, because it blends in so well with my skin.  The matte cream shade is a perfect highlight.  Buckingham Palace is a shimmery taupe with some brown tones.  Rocky Mountains is a matte taupe with a decidedly gray tone.  The two shades are very similar, and I think Tarte made a mistake including them both, especially in the same quad.  Bordeaux is a blackened plum, and much darker than it looks in the pan.  I wish that Tarte had traded out one of the taupe shades in this quad for a lighter plum shade to play up some purple tones.  This quad is great for a smoky eye, but there isn’t enough variety in these shades.

tartegetawayB

Tarte Gorgeous Getaways Palette Quad 3

Ambitious is a pink-toned mauve blush that would look good an just about anyone.  The medium shade is dark enough to show up on deeper skin tones, but not so dark that fair tones can’t wear it.  It’s a universal shade, and a great addition to the palette.

tartegetaway6

Tarte Gorgeous Getaways Palette Quad 4

Quad 4 has some of the more unique shades in the palette.  Gold Coast is a light gold shimmer.  Eiffel Tower is a stormy matte slate gray.  Space Needle is a gorgeous sheer taupe shimmer.  I love this shade, and it’s definitely one of my favorites.  Midnight in Paris is a dark matte teal.  The four shades look really beautiful together.

tartegetawayC

Tarte Gorgeous Getaways Palette Quad 4

Lighthearted is a very bright, medium pink.  It has some raspberry tones in it.  The shade is still wearable for fair skin tones, you just need to use a light hand.  It’s a great shade for winter to get that “just came in from the cold” look.

tartelipgloss1

Tarte Gorgeous Getaways Maracuja Lip Glosses

The final three products in the Tarte Gorgeous Getaways Palette are the three Maracuja Lip Glosses.  Pictured above from left to right are: When in Rome, New York Minute, Czech Me Out.  The Maracuja Lip Glosses have a strong minty scent and they tingle on the lips.  I’m not the biggest fan of minty lip products because mint is an irritant.  That’s why so many lip plumpers are minty; mint makes your lips swell.  On the other hand, the tingle isn’t too bad and it does go away after a while, so it all depends on your personal taste.  The formula isn’t exactly sticky, but there is some tack to keep the gloss from fading too fast.  I don’t mind a little tack if it means the gloss will stick around for a while.  They get more comfortable as you wear them, once they dry down a little and the tingle goes away.  My basic opinion of these glosses is that if you can get past the first ten minutes of wear, then they are great.  When in Rome is a bright peachy pink with a lot of shimmer.  It doesn’t feel glittery or gritty at all.  New York Minute is a light creamy pink with lavender tones.  Czech Me Out is a dark pink-toned nude with some shimmer.  There isn’t as much shimmer as there is in When in Rome.  The swatch below was taken in the sunlight so that you could see the shimmer.  I ended up swatching them in reverse order (sorry).

tartelipgloss2

(L-R) Czech Me Out, New York Minute, When in Rome

Let’s talk value for a minute.  The Tarte Gorgeous Getaways Palette is $48, full price.  Though at first that doesn’t seem to fit the theme of a budget beauty blog, it actually does if you do the math.  A Wet n Wild single shadow is $1.99, so let’s price the 16 Tarte shadows out at $2 each.  That’s $32 of the original $48 right there.  Now since an e.l.f Studio blush is $3, let’s price the 4 blushes at the same price.  32+12=44, so that leaves $1 each for the three full size lip glosses and the travel compact.  You can see that compared to even the cheapest drugstore brands that you can find, this palette is a good value and the quality is so much better.

I highly recommend the Tarte Gorgeous Getaways Palette.  It’s beautiful, the products are great, and it’s a killer value.  Like I said, the Tarte Gorgeous Getaways Palette is exclusive to Ulta.  You can buy it in store, or at ulta.com.  This is a limited edition palette, so there is a chance that it could sell out.  Be sure to call your local store to see if they still have it in stock before you make the trip.  Or, just order online.  Ulta.com is offering free shipping on orders of $25 or more during the holidays.  Either way, I think that the Tarte Gorgeous Getaways Palette would make a great addition to anyone’s collection.
