Continuing on with some of the new items that I got from NYX’s Spring 2015 release, today I have NYX High Definition Blush in Summer to show you.  NYX has some very good quality powder blushes in their regular line up, so I really wanted to try out one of these new HD powder blushes to see how they compare.  Here is what NYX has to say about their new HD blushes: “A high definition, lightweight blush that blends evenly. This vibrant and silky blush delivers a beautiful flush of color and is paraben free.”  There are 24 shades to choose from.

Before we get into the blush itself, can we just take a minute to talk about the packaging?  I love that NYX is continuing with the cute little bow closure.  It’s a nice touch to otherwise generic packaging that is a simple way to kick it up a notch.  The HD blush looks to be about the same size as the regular powder blushes, but the packaging is much thinner and takes up a lot less room than the regular NYX powder blushes.  On one hand, I appreciate that because the regular powder blushes are pretty bulky and can be a pain to store.  However, the blush pan is extremely thin, so the blush can be prone to breakage which is no bueno.  There have already been complaints about broken blushes, so keep that in mind.  The new HD blushes are .16 oz (4.5 g) of product versus the regular powder blushes that are .18 oz (5.2 g), so they are a little smaller.

I chose NYX High Definition Blush in Summer because the vibrant color caught my attention and wouldn’t let go.  Summer is a vivid pink-toned coral with golden shimmer.  It is really beautiful.  The formula for the NYX High Definition Blush is really soft, so there is definitely a lot of powder that gets kicked up in the pan.  But don’t confuse “powdery” with “chalky” because the blush is silky smooth.  Summer is intensely pigmented, and a little goes a long way, especially on lighter skin.  I only have one HD blush, but judging by Summer alone, it seems like they may be more pigmented than the regular blushes (though those are decently pigmented in their own right).  It sheers out to a warm pink with a golden sheen that gives the skin a radiant glow.  It wears well, and I didn’t notice any fading.  If Summer is indicative of the whole line, NYX High Definition Blushes are very good quality.

I am a little torn on the NYX High Definition Blush.  On one hand the pigmentation and staying power are great, but the thin pan and soft formula makes the blush very delicate.  Unfortunately, my brand new NYX High Definition Blush in Summer is no more.  I went to use it the other day and accidentally dropped it in the sink.  Though it didn’t fall far, it completely shattered beyond repair.  I was so sad because Summer is so beautiful.  Ultimately, I like the NYX High Definition Blush and think that it is worth a try, but be very careful with it.  Or you can just stick with the regular NYX powder blush, because if I am being honest, there really isn’t that much of a difference in quality.  The HD formula is different than the regular powder blushes, but the old ones are just as good.

Have you gotten a chance to try the new NYX High Definition Blushes yet?  What were your thoughts?  Are you a fan of the regular powder blushes in NYX’s lineup?  Let me know in the comments below.
