The grand total worth of my May 2016 bag is $54.50.  I am actually really happy with my bag, and I didn’t expect to be.  When I first saw my items, I wasn’t disappointed, but I also wasn’t thrilled.  But after getting a chance to play with some of the prodcuts, I am a lot more impressed.  The Pacifica trio looks rather ho-hum, but when I swatched the shadows, I loved them.  The The Organic Pharmacy Antioxidant Lip Balm is really nice.  I would never pay full price for it, but I am very happy to have it.  I am using a sample of Smashbox Full Exposure mascara right now, so I’m happy to try the new X-rated mascara.  I think the Hydrating mask will be fun to play with.  I wish the Neutrogena Color Stick was in a different shade because it is pretty much exactly my natural lip color, but I do like the formula.  Overall, good job, Ipsy.  If you still haven’t signed up for Ipsy, and would like to get your own Ipsy bag, go ahead and click on this referral link or click on the link under the “Check this out” heading on the right hand side of the page.  You can click on the “Ipsy” tag under the category section to see my past Ipsy bags for a better idea of what you can expect.  If you are already a subscriber, what did you think of your May 2016 Ipsy bag?  Did we get the same things or did you get different items?  Were you happy, disappointed, or ambivalent?  Let me know in the comments below.

We can’t wait to see what you dream up.”

Her award-winning skincare and makeup is beloved by everyone from A-listers to beauty insiders. This velvety-smooth shadow gives you bold color with a subtle shimmer finish in just 1 swipe!”  Full size is $15 for .14 oz at ofracosmetics.com.  Sample size is .07 oz, worth $7.50.

The grand total worth of my April 2016 bag is $42.39.  Unlike last month when I was thrilled with my bag, I have mixed feelings about the products that I received this month.  I will never use the Moroccanoil Treatment, so that’s going to a friend.  I am not a fan of the Tarte Lipsurgence formula because they are so minty, though it is a pretty shade.  I was really excited to get the blush, which looks gorgeous in the pan, but it swatches really sheer.  I’m going to have to play with it and maybe use it as a layering blush because it does give a lovely sheen on the skin. On the upside, the blending brush feels nice and I am really impressed with the Ofra eyeshadow.  It is beautiful and extremely pigmented.  So, it’s a bit of a mixed bag this month. If you are already a subscriber, what did you think of your April 2016 Ipsy bag?  Did we get the same things or did you get different items?  Were you happy, disappointed, or ambivalent?  Let me know in the comments below.

Celebrate the season with a spotlight on radiant, selfie-ready skin, flushed cheeks and a fresh kick of color on eyes or lips.”  The bag this month came in three different color schemes.  My bag is mint green with a coral floral pattern on it.  It’s pretty cute.  But let’s get to the goods.

Ipsy

Ipsy

The grand total worth of my March 2016 bag is $40.88.  I am pretty happy with the products that I received this month.  Ipsy gave me three full sized products, which is great.  I have been wanting to try the NYX Liquid Suede lipsticks but hadn’t pulled the trigger, so I am glad to have Kitten Heels to try.  The Mellow blush looks beautiful, so I’m really happy to have it.  I haven’t used a cleansing oil before, so it will be fun to experiment, and I can’t wait to try the collagen masks.  I was not thrilled with February’s bag last month, but I am pleased with my bag for March. If you are already a subscriber, what did you think of your March 2016 Ipsy bag?  Did we get the same things or did you get different items?  Were you happy, disappointed, or ambivalent?  Let me know in the comments below.

February 2016 Ipsy

It’s Ipsy time again!  The last couple of bags were pretty slow in coming, but February’s bag arrived sooner than expected, which I really appreciate.  For those who are new to the blog and don’t know, Ipsy is a beauty subscription service.  For $10 a month (plus tax in some states), you will receive a makeup bag containing 4-5 deluxe beauty samples.  You often receive full size products, and the overall value of each bag will vary from month to month, but it is always well over the $10 subscription fee.  The theme for February is “Pretty in (Ipsy) Pink- This February we are taking our favorite shade from dainty to daring with rule-breaking looks for all beauty lovers.”   I was worried for a minute because I am not the biggest fan of pink unless it is very bold, but it turns out that the theme wasn’t really an issue.

February 2016 Ipsy bag

February 2016 Ipsy bag

Look at this bag!  I love it.  The front is textured vinyl that is meant to look like a pixelated envelope with a heart in the center.  It is so cute.  The back is screaming pink smooth vinyl.  Seriously, I love everything about this bag.  I would probably pay $10 just for the makeup bag, so there is the subscription fee right there.  But let’s get into the products.

Smashbox Cosmetics Photo Finish Primer Oil

Smashbox Cosmetics Photo Finish Primer Oil

Paula Dorf Baby Eyes Enhancer

Paula Dorf Baby Eyes Enhancer

Inspired by the beautiful baby eyes of Paula’s nephew, this baby-toned pencil brightens the lower rim of the eye.”  Full size is $20 for .4 oz at pauladorf.com.  Sample is .02 oz, worth $1.

Plus, it’s high in Vitamins C & E and Sunflower Oil. Vitamin C and E natural antioxidant.”  Full size is $18 at chella.com, but I can’t find the weight of the product.  The sample is .04 oz, so I am going to guess that it is around half the size, or maybe just slightly less.  I am going to place the value of this sample at $8.

Ipsy

Ipsy

The grand total worth of my February 2016 bag is $30.87, plus the adorable bag.  I have to be honest, I am not in love with my bag this month.  I don’t line my inner rims or water line, so I probably won’t use the Paula Dorf liner.  I also think that it is super small and it doesn’t add value to the bag.  The Chella lip pencil is okay, but also on the small side.  I’m ambivalent about the brush.  I don’t need another definer brush, but I do have an extensive collection, so others may be very happy to receive this brush.  I have used Luxie Beauty brushes in the past and have liked them, so the quality is there.  I am happy to try the Promise Organic Facial Lotion and am actually excited about the Smashbox Pimer Oil.  I guess that overall this bag was just ho-hum for me.  That’s okay, I liked my two previous bags a lot, and Ipsy can’t win them all. If you are already a subscriber, what did you think of your February 2016 Ipsy bag?  Did we get the same things or did you get different items?  Were you happy, disappointed, or ambivalent?  Let me know in the comments below.

Em Cosmetics shade play artistic eye color palette

Em Cosmetics shade play artistic eye color palette

My Ipsy bag came with one more item this month.  This is the shade play artistic eye color palette in Casablanca Neutrals from em cosmetics.  It is nowhere on the Ipsy website that I could find, but there was a card included.  It said: “I hope that you are enjoying the Holiday season with family and friends! I want to personally reach out and thank you for being a part of the Ipsy family for over three years now.  Here’s a fun fact. Did you know that you were one of the first to subscribe to the Glam Bag? I consider you one of he founding members of Ipsy- You shared this dream, and you jumped in with your whole heart. I can’t thank you enough for taking a leap of faith and joining me on this journey of beauty discovery. With love, Michelle Phan.”  I went to the em cosmetics website, and this palette is $28.  That’s a nice thank you gift!

Ipsy December 2015

Ipsy December 2015

The grand total for my December Ipsy bag is $32.03, plus the $28 shadow palette.  Not bad for a $10 subscription fee.  I am happy with this month’s selection.  I do wish that the Pacifica lipstick came in a darker color because I am not the biggest fan of nudes, but otherwise I can see myself getting a lot of use out of the products that were sent to me.  I love experimenting with masks, and I’ve been wanting to try a micellar water, so I am excited about both of those items.  Who can’t use a good eye primer, and I still haven’t tried Sephora’s Formula X polish.  It’s a good bag for me.  I am really happy with the surprise thank you gift from em cosmetics.  I am so pleased that they chose to recognize people who have been subscribed for many years.  It is such a nice touch.

It’s Ipsy time!  I got my November Ipsy bag in the mail today. November’s theme is “Beauty Blast: The stars are aligning. Your November Glam Bag is a universe of brilliant beauties. Twinkle, twinkle, darling. It’s time to light up the sky.”  Uhmm… okay.

Ipsy November 2015

Ipsy November 2015

The bag this month is pretty cool.  It isn’t made of the best material out there, but it also isn’t the cheapest Ipsy has sent.  The galaxy pattern is really pretty and it’s different than other bags in my collection, so I appreciate that.  It has a front zipper and is a good size for throwing in your purse.  But, enough about the bag, let’s talk about this month’s products.

Crown Brush Deluxe Pointed Crease Brush

Crown Brush Deluxe Pointed Crease Brush

Crown Brush Deluxe Pointed Crease Brush: “This handcrafted professional pointed crease brush is perfectly tapered to give you optimum coverage and color in the crease. The fluffy tip works well for blending multiple colors. Perfect for layering color or creating a smokey eye.”  The brush is full sized and worth $4.95 at crownbrush.us.

Coolway Stronghold Spray

Now you can have flowing, beautiful hair all day long, without frizz! Tremendous volume with long-lasting hold. Create big, beautiful hair without frizz. Beaute Basics Gel Eyeliner with Gel Eyeliner Brush

Beaute Basics Gel Eyeliner with Gel Eyeliner Brush

Beaute Basics Gel Eyeliner in Navy with Gel Eyeliner Brush: “This gel liner delivers bold color that lasts. Whether you want a perfectly defined line or a smokey eye, this amazing formula blends easily and won’t fade or crease. Navy blue gel liner pot with synthetic taklon liner brush. Easy glide on application and amazing color payoff.”  This product is not available at beautebasics.com, so I don’t know what value to assign to it.  It looks like a full size product at .3 oz, plus it comes with the brush so I would price it at $5-$10.  Let’s split the diff and call it $7.

DERMELECT 'ME' Peptide Infused Lacquer in Commando

DERMELECT ‘ME’ Peptide Infused Lacquer in Commando

DERMELECT ‘ME’ Peptide Infused Lacquer in Commando: “The ‘Cure’ in your ‘Mani’ is at your fingertips with the 1st peptide-infused color treatment for fragile, weak nails. Smashbox Cosmetics Full Exposure Mascara

Smashbox Cosmetics Full Exposure Mascara

Smashbox Cosmetics Full Exposure Mascara: “Inspired by the on-set technique of layering a lengthening fiber mascara over a volumizing formula, this new studio-tested mascara exposes your longest, fullest lashes. Ipsy November 2015

Ipsy November 2015

The grand total of my November 2015 Ipsy bag is around $36.34, depending on how much that liner is actually worth.  If I’m being honest, I was not a fan of November’s bag.  I have gotten great brushes from Crown Brush in the past, but this one looks cheap and I think it got misshapen in transit.  You can see by my photo that it is flat on one side and I don’t think it is supposed to be.  I don’t need the hairspray and am sick of Ipsy sending me hair products when I continually tell them that I don’t want them.  The gel liner is interesting, though I didn’t like the brush that came with it.  It’s a pretty ocean blue shade that I don’t have in my collection.  I am not sure about the formula, though.  It’s very wet, so pigmentation isn’t as opaque as I would like.  I’ll have to play around with it.  I think the nail polish is a very pretty shade, and it will be interesting to see if it strengthens my nails like it claims to.  The first coat was pretty streaky, but the second coat leveled itself out.  We’ll see.  I am glad to have the Smashbox mascara.  I looked on Ipsy’s website, and there weren’t many products that I thought that I would have wanted to try instead, which is never the case.  I feel like November was just a dud all around.  Ipsy is usually a lot better than this.  I really hope that next month will be better.  It’s the holiday bag!  Fingers crossed.

You can click on the “Ipsy” tag under the category section to see my past Ipsy bags for a better idea of what you can expect.  I am usually much happier with my Ipsy bag than I was this month.  If you still haven’t signed up for Ipsy, and would like to get your own Ipsy bag, go ahead and click on this referral link or click on the link under the “Check this out” heading on the right hand side of the page.  If you are already a subscriber, what did you think of your November 2015 Ipsy bag?  Did we get the same things or did you get different items?  Were you happy, disappointed, or ambivalent?  I’d especially like to know your thoughts if you got the gel liner or the nail polish.  Let me know in the comments below.

Ipsy October 2015

Ipsy October 2015

The grand total of my October 2015 Ipsy bag is $31.47.  I have been really happy with my Ipsy bags the last couple of months, but October’s bag just doesn’t do it for me.  It’s not that the products are bad, per se, but I know what some other people got in their Ipsy bags and I would much rather have had those products instead.  The IT Cosmetics Hello Lashes mascara, Laura Geller Baked Blush, and Girlactik Beauty Precise Marker Liner are all products that I would have loved to get.  Instead, I got theBalm Mary-Lou Manizer for the third time (I gave the previous two away), a gimmicky lipgloss that doesn’t really do anything, and a simple wooden black eyeliner that I could have gotten the equivalent of at the drugstore.  Now to be fair, I am very happy about the Nourish Organic Pure Hydrating Argan Face Serum and the AYRES Pampas Sunrise Hand Cream, and the two of them make up for my $10 subscription fee.  I am just personally disappointed in the products that I received compared to what other products were out there.  Maybe it’s just a personal preference thing.  I know that Mary-Lou Manizer is very popular, and I’ve heard great things about tarte Lipsurgence lipgloss.  I just would have rather had the other things.  Oh well, maybe next month will be better.

September 2015 Ipsy Bag

I received that big pink envelope in the mail that can only mean one thing- it’s Ipsy time again! So let’s get into it.

September Ipsy bag

September Ipsy bag

You guys.  Look at this bag!  I was surprised by how luxe the bag looks this month.  It is made of a soft leather-like vinyl material in a warm bronze shade.  There is a really neat texture on the front that glams it up.  It reminds me of a stylish handbag, and I will definitely be using it.  It looks expensive and I really like it.  I would probably pay $10 just for the bag, so there is the subscription fee right there.  But let’s get into the products.

Vasanti Cosmetics Brighten Up! Exfoliating Cleanser

Vasanti Cosmetics Brighten Up! Exfoliating Cleanser: “Rev up your skin with this powerful exfoliating treatment that’s packed with the natural ingredients necessary to get a bright, sexy glow. Lightweight, absorbs easily and super moisturizing. Free of sulfates, parabens, phthalates and artificial fragrances and dyes. 100% vegan.”  Full size is 4.6 fl oz, worth $17.95 at bayberrynaturals.com.  Sample size .5 fl oz, worth $1.95.

Evelyn Iona Cosmetics Cream Blush in ASH

Evelyn Iona Cosmetics Cream Blush in ASH

Evelyn Iona Cosmetics Cream Blush in ASH: “This cream blush has a formula that melts into your skin and delivers a healthy dose of organic goodness. This cruelty and paraben free cream blush will leave you with a natural, dewy look and skin that will thank-you! Natural & Organic. Paraben and cruelty-free. Made in USA, and $1 from every product sold is donated to woman’s organizations.”  Size info is not available at evelyniona.com or anywhere else that I could find, but I found the size of the concealer which is priced the same as this blush at $18.75.  I am assuming that they are the same size, 3 g.  Sample size of the blush is .06 oz or 1.7 g, worth $10.63.

tre'StiQue Mini Matte Lip Crayon

tre’StiQue Mini Matte Lip Crayon

tre’StiQue Mini Matte Lip Crayon: “Fall in love with this new matte lip color. It’s buttery soft, rich, yet light as air and uber comfortable with a futuristic vibrant finish. Infused with Vitamin E, and Monoi Tahiti Butter for moisturization and antioxidant properties. Deposits rich color that you can build. Contains Vitamin E and Monoi Tahiti Butter. Modern radiant matte finish.”  This product doesn’t seem to be available full size, but a trio of minis is available for $32 at trestique.com, so one mini would be a third of that, worth $10.67.

NYX Cosmetics ipsy Eye Shadow Trio

NYX Cosmetics ipsy Eye Shadow Trio

Ipsy

Ipsy

The grand total of my September 2015 Ipsy bag is $34.92, not counting the totally gorgeous bag itself.  I am happy with everything that I got.  I’ll use all of it, and nothing in the bag is a dud product for me.  To be fair, I am not “wowed” or extremely excited by any one product either, but that’s okay.  This is a solid bag, and I am happy to try everything.  I like that Ipsy keeps sending me all natural and vegan products lately.  I also am a big fan of NYX, and own a couple of those trios already.  I know that I will like the shadows a lot.  Good job Ipsy.  If you still haven’t signed up for Ipsy, and would like to get your own Ipsy bag, go ahead and click on this referral link or click on the link under the “Check this out” heading on the right hand side of the page.  You can also click on the “Ipsy” tag under the category section to see my past Ipsy bags for a better idea of what you can expect.  If you are already a subscriber, what did you think of your September 2015 Ipsy bag?  Did we get the same things or did you get different items?  Were you happy, disappointed, or ambivalent?  Let me know in the comments below.

August 2015 Ipsy

August 2015 Ipsy

The grand total worth of my August Ipsy bag is $37.24.  Though this isn’t the most expensive Ipsy bag, I am pretty happy with it.  Though I don’t usually want nail polishes, this Trust Fund Beauty Nail Polish looks really beautiful.  I also think that the Skone Cosmetics pencil is beautiful, and I will definitely use it as a lip liner.  (It’s got too much red in it for me to use as an eye liner, IMO.)  Once again, I’d like to say that no liner should be used on both eyes and lips without being thoroughly sanitized in between.  It’s better to not use any product that has been on your lips on your eyes at all to avoid infection.  End PSA, lol.  The lipstick is in a ho-hum shade, but I like that it is all natural.  Actually, many of the products that I received in this bag are all-natural or vegetarian/vegan friendly.  I think that’s really cool.  I can not wait to use the Juara mask.  It looks great, but I wish the sample size wasn’t so small.  I’m not thrilled by the hair products (why Ipsy, just stop it) but otherwise I am pleased with my bag.
