I received that big pink envelope in the mail that can only mean one thing- it’s Ipsy time again! Yay! For those who are new to the blog and don’t know, Ipsy is a beauty subscription service. For $10 a month (plus tax in some states), you will receive a makeup bag containing 4-5 deluxe beauty samples. You often receive full size products, and the overall value of each bag will vary from month to month, but it is always well over the $10 subscription fee. The theme for May’s bag is Destination Chic: “Got a case of wanderlust? Grab your girl gang and hit the road with these must-haves to to keep you flawless on the fly.” let’s take a look.
Épicé International Hydrating Mask: “Épicé Hydrating Facial Mask is a truly invigorating, yet gentle, way to exfoliate, detoxify and remove environmental impurities from the skin. Your skin will be left looking brighter and more radiant. Rich in antioxidants, ceramides and aloe, this Kaolin Clay mask helps to remove dead skin cells and oil while infusing the skin with vital nutrients. Hyaluronic acid is added to help plump, firm and rehydrate the skin. The added benefit of the unique Malus Domestica Swiss Apple Stem Cell extract regenerates cells to provide a long lasting effect.” This 1 oz travel size sample is available for $12.50 at epiceinternational.com
Pacifica Natural Mineral Coconut Eye Shadow Trio: “This shimmering trio of ipsy-curated shades includes Crush (beige), Skinny Dip (copper) and Lovely (brown). These richly pigmented, velvety-smooth eye shadows complement each other for a subtle yet glitzy everyday eye look.” Because this trio was made for Ipsy, it is not available at pacificabeauty.com, but there is something sort of similar available at Target for $9.99. Based on that pricing, this sample is worth about $7.00
Neutrogena MoistureSmooth Color Stick in Almond Nude: “MoistureSmooth Color Sticks instantly moisturize lips, while continuously conditioning them so they are softer and smoother in just 3 days with nothing on them. Made with fruit extracts along with mango and shea butter, the balm-like formula glides on easily, providing a sheer wash of moisturizing color that lasts for hours. In addition, the twist up package allows for perfect application each time – with no sharpener needed.” Full size is $8.49 for .11 oz at neutrogena.com. Sample size is .08 oz, worth $6.17.
The Organic Pharmacy Antioxidant Lip Balm: “A rich nourishing balm infused with Shea Butter, Pomegranate, Rose Hip and Vitamin E to protect and restore lips. Use on its own or on top of lipstick to keep lips super soft.” This is a full sized sample, worth $21.50 at theorganicpharmacy.com.
Smashbox X-Rated Mascara: “Smashbox is back at it again! This triple threat brush isolates and magnifies each lash, while applying its fiber-loaded formula. The result? Sky-high and defined lashes in just one swipe. Bonus: the formula is clump, flake and smudge-proof!” Full size is $22 for .3 oz at smashbox.com. Sample size is .1 oz, worth $7.33.
The grand total worth of my May 2016 bag is $54.50. I am actually really happy with my bag, and I didn’t expect to be. When I first saw my items, I wasn’t disappointed, but I also wasn’t thrilled. But after getting a chance to play with some of the prodcuts, I am a lot more impressed. The Pacifica trio looks rather ho-hum, but when I swatched the shadows, I loved them. The The Organic Pharmacy Antioxidant Lip Balm is really nice. I would never pay full price for it, but I am very happy to have it. I am using a sample of Smashbox Full Exposure mascara right now, so I’m happy to try the new X-rated mascara. I think the Hydrating mask will be fun to play with. I wish the Neutrogena Color Stick was in a different shade because it is pretty much exactly my natural lip color, but I do like the formula. Overall, good job, Ipsy.
